Please don't forget that November 8th, November 15th, and November 22nd (all Sundays) from 2:30pm to 7:00pm I'll be hosting write-ins at Michael's Hot Dog's at 340 Half Day Road, Buffalo Grove, IL 60089.
It's located at Half Day Road and Buffalo Grove Road. It's just west of Milwaukee Ave.
You can check the days and time on the Regional Events Calendar as well.
If you live in the Deerfield, Long Grove, Buffalo Grove, Libertyville, Mundelein, Wheeling, Vernon Hills area, this should be an easy place to get to. I've got three power strips that will be hooked up to extension cords so there are seventeen available spots for people. If more than seventeen people want to come, I just need to know so that I can pick up another power strip and that will allow an additional 6 people to attend.
I really hope to see people there!

Is anyone interested in attending this? I just thought it would be good to have a suburban meet-up/write-in for people living in these areas.
Michael's is letting us use their private room, so we won't be bothered by the general people coming and going from the restaurant.

I will try to show up at at least one of these, we shall see how the laptop is doing though, as it still sounds like a dying cat, so I might be desktop bound.

Well, that would be great if you all could come. As for laptops, if you don't mind the old-fashioned pen and paper route, you could still come out and join us!
Anyway, I look forward to seeing everyone there!

Hi,
I might show up for a meeting. This is the first nanowrimo year for me. This is a first attempt for me to write a novel too so 'What exactly is a write-in?'
Thanks,
----------Khipus
May God bless those that read your book.

Hi Khipus,
That's awesome! I look forward to seeing you there (and everyone else)! Don't worry about this being your first nano. This will be my first write-in (attending or hosting). I am not 100% sure what we'll be doing besides writing. Basically, from what I have been told, we meet up at a public place and hook up our laptops to a power source (which I have made sure there is enough for 18 people!). If you don't have a laptop, you can still come and write. Just bring a journal, notepad, or whatever you prefer to write with. We sit, we write, we converse and banter our ideas, we help each other. You can purchase food (there's enough variation in both food and price to suit all dietary and budget needs).
In addition to that, any advice from those in the know would be great! I think Michelle mentioned contests and prizes, but I have no additional info on that, so right now I'm just planning for a group get-together and sharing of knowledge and ideas to help us all get our writing off the ground.
I will be at each event about five or ten minutes before it is scheduled to start to make sure that tables and power is set up accordingly. Michael's is really looking forward to having us there and have been VERY accomodating to what we need (except Wi-Fi this year. Maybe if we get enough people in there, and the write-ins are successful they will consider getting Wi-Fi so that we can get even more people in there next year. The side room that they have, seats somewhere between 65-85 people. I only have room right now for a total of 18 including me because of the power strips I bought and to make sure everyone has plenty of space for their laptops, notebooks, food, or whatever else they need. As I said in previous posts though, I'd be happy to pick up another power strip to make room for 24 people if we get enough people attending. Right now though, it doesn't look like we'll need it).
Also, though I've allotted five and a half hours for each event, don't feel you HAVE to be there for all five and a half hours. If you need to leave early or arrive late, or arrive late and leave early, that's fine too. I just wanted to make sure there was enough time for people to meet and write.
If you have any questions on how to get there (by car) nanomail me and I'll do my best to give you directions. If you need to come by bus or train, I can't help you. I am completely unfamiliar with public transit. Sorry about that.

OK, so I stopped off after the Kick-Off party tonight and picked up A LOT of candy to put together for word sprint contest prize giveaways. I'm hoping this will entice you all to consider coming out on Sundays to Michael's for the write-ins, lol.
I really hope to see you all there, it's spacious in the room we'll be in, and now there will be candy enticements (Yay for sugar highs!) Lol.
It was really good to meet you all tonight, and I look forward to seeing you again at the write-ins!
I've never done a write-in event before (hosting or attending) so I am hoping that I don't mess up too much and that you all have fun and can get a lot of writing done!
If anyone has any questions, please let me know via Nanomail.

I'm definitely going to try and come to at least one of these, and if I do come I will have my power strip, so that's another six plugs :D
Sounds like a great place, I'm looking forward to checking it out!

Oh yay! That's great MJ!
Cool, that will allow 24 people to plug-in that day! Awesome!
And no worries... I have PLENTY of candy to give away (post-halloween candy is awesome to buy from Walgreens, lol).
And yeah, it's a really cool place. The room we'll be using is the party room. It's got a BIG skylight and party lights on the ceiling beneath it, and if people need a fun break, there's arcade games in the way back/side room. Don't quote me on it, but I think that one of the "games" is one of those prize-stuffed booth things with the crane. I am not sure if my brain is just thinking it saw that, or if it's really there, but that's what I think one of them is.
And yay! I now have 2117 words! Whoo hoo!

Well, you made Nano's daily quota for the day, so that is something! Is your personal word quota more than Nano's?
At any rate, you can do it! Think positively!
I like writing in third person. I find it easier than first person. I'm reading a book by an author now who writes her story in first person, and I don't know how she does it! She's got a TON of novels out too.

Hi.
I'm planning on coming to Michael's again tomorrow. Since the weather won't be as nice as it was last Sunday, maybe more people will join us!

I hope so!
Small change of plans in my schedule, but it shouldn't affect anyone else. I need to leave around 6pm because of a conflicting event (non-Nano oriented). Please don't let that stop anyone from showing up later in the day. Signs will be posted right outside the side room so it's easy to find!
I hope no one will be inconvenienced by this.
See you all tomorrow!
