First time WriMo here. I just moved to Barrie from the states a few months ago, and I'm wondering if there's anyone else out there doing NaNo in Barrie.

Is there another region in the Ontario list that includes Barrie? I don't know Ontario that well yet, but it seemed like we're too far north for Durham or Toronto.

Hey! The Barrie post is at the top! Isn't that convenient?

First off, welcome to all newbies! NaNo's not that painful, I promise. (Uh, most of the time.)

Nope, this is it and you've found us! If you're in/around Barrie you're definitely not alone. I personally know two more writers who haven't shown up here yet, and there are certainly others skulking around.

Two years ago, a few of us arranged some informal discussion-get-togethers/group writing sessions at a coffee shop in town. If there's any interest in that, we'll try again this year.

Hey, I'm a newbie from Barrie too! I knew there had to be more of us. It's nice to meet some other Barrie writers that are participating.

Hello! I am also in Barrie and not too keen on driving into Muskoka for write-ins! :)

Feel free to add me as a writing buddy and I will add you back. I am also totally up for coffee shop/library meet-ups.

Glad to see I'm not the only one! I'm also game if anyone wants to do a library/coffee shop get together.

I'm just outside of Barrie, and I would be more than up for a coffee shop/library meet-up sometime this month. This will be my first serious attempt at NaNoWriMo.

I'm from outside Barrie, but I'd rather travel the half hour it takes me to get there than the hour I'd spend getting to Muskoka or Toronto. It's my first time trying NaNo, and I'm so glad there are people nearer to me who are trying it as well!

I'm about half an hour north of Barrie (you know, depending on who's doing the driving.. giggle.)

Hi everyone,

Great to meet you all,

I'm actually in Angus but would walk on water to meet with with other wrimos in Barrie this year. I'm up for coffee, yakking, whining, laughing, writing together [ called a write in , I think], hand holding, encouragement etc

Last year I started 2 1/2 weeks late. managed to do it but nearly killed myself in the process. I loved it, but this year I'd like to be little kinder to myself.

Hope to meet some or all of you in person,

artady

Since we don't have an official ML, I thought I might organize an event for next week. I realize that some of us might have work or school (or, you know, family), so nothing is going to work for everyone, but:

Tuesday November 3rd at the Starbucks on Essa Road from 4:00PM until...whenever?

(I picked Essa over Mapleview because there's more seating at Essa...and it's less drafty!)

By next Tuesday we should all have 3334 words/completely started to panic, so it might be nice to know we're not alone. ;)

I can make some time on Tuesday if others are interested in a meet up that afternoon. That is the Starbucks in the plaza with the Blockbuster and Shoppers Drug Mart, right?

I'm from the Barrie area, in a small town called Angus. It's about a fifteen minute drive west of Barrie and has a bad reputation to people from Barrie. I'm not sure why. Anyway, how's everyone's NaNoWriMo going so far? I'm surprised that I've done so well. Still very early, though...

I hope people don't mind that I'm adding some of you to my buddy list. We need to support each other! :) I probably won't be able to meet anyone as I work nights and will be spending most my free time writing.

Feel free to add me, as well.

Okay, more details!

The Starbucks is at the corner of Essa Road and Veteran's Drive, on the west side of the 400 (ie. away from the Bay). It is in a plaza with a Shoppers and a Pizza Pizza, but it is the last store front, so it's kind of far from the Pizza place.

I'll be the red head with a lap top looking either terribly busy or incredibly frazzled. :)

Hi Dark,

Too bad you won't have time to meet anyone. Still ,it's nice to know that there is another wrimo in Angus.

I'm on Lee Ave. Where are you? I want to be able to picture someone hunched over keyboard with a huge "nano" sign hung on their front door someplace in town.

Be too amazing if we lived on the same street :),

artlady.

Street Address: 420 Essa Rd Barrie, ON L4N 9J7

Directions:

Exit the 400 and drive south (ish, I know directions in Barrie can be confusing!) on Essa Road. You should pass a Zehrs and an Esso gas station almost immediately. If you are driving towards the carpool or where the race track used to be, you are going in the WRONG DIRECTION.

Cross Bryne Drive and go up the hill.

Cross Beacon Road and keep going.

There will be a plaza on your LEFT, turn into it and park. The Starbucks is at the end of the row of shops.

If you get to Veteran's Drive, turn LEFT and pull into the parking lot.

If you get to Mapleview, you've gone WAY too far. :)

It shows up on Google Maps if you are coming from somewhere other than the 400.

Hello, fellow writers. Does Orillia (or, to be more accurate, just outside of Orillia) qualify for the Barrie group?

I can't make it Tuesday but if there's an evening get together or a weekend one, I'll be there.

I'm on Elizabeth Street, which turns into Center at the sharp bend. I believe that that's on the other side of town from where you are. I used to live near Cecil, though.

Orillia, here! Close enough to Barrie. Do you guys have any more frantic writing get-togethers planned in Barrie this month?

I think people are still meeting on Sundays, but I almost always have to work that day, so I am not sure.

Are people available for a meet-up at 6:00 on Monday, 23rd? We could meet at the Williams on Mapleview.

Hey guys. I'm trying NaNoWriMo for the first time this year.
But I gave myself one heck of a handicap, I'm starting it today!

Being a college student, I'm iffy on the ability to actually finish it;; but I'm going to try my best anyways!

Good luck to you all~
