Another year, another novel - and another kick-off. :-)
So, who's up for it?
Date: Saturday 31 Oct 2009
Place: Robert Harris cafe (on the Square)
Time: 2pm.
I have NaNoWriMo freebies as usual, and I'll be the embarrassed girl in the fluorescent yellow NaNoWriMo shirt as usual. But the powers-that-be didn't give out as many freebies as usual this year, so only the first to turn up will be able to get freebies!
I'm also thinking of having a write-in/meet-up on Sunday 1 Nov, so we can all stress/obsess over how badly/well we're going already, share inspirations, challenge each other in mini-word wars, wherever the mood takes us! (...within reason.)
What do you guys think? Interested? If you could let me know if you can
a) Come to the kick-off, and
b) Are interested in a write-in on Sunday,
then please let me know in this thread!
Hope the plotting/stressing/stocking up on coffee is going well for all!

Yay!!!! I've been desperately waiting for this post for about a week (yeah, I'm currently living for study...and planning NaNo). I'll be at the meet up on Saturday and will be keen for a write in. Hopefully this year I'll actually have something written down by then......

Well I will be with you in Spirit. Would love to be there but moved to Sydney a few months ago and can't get to any of their meetings. Missing PN very much.
Have fun

I'm dying to start writing, I'll try be there. Unfortunately i will curse you all with my whining about how its written in my head and not yet in a physical/cyber form.
Sunday isn't an easy day for me to meet but i can try.

Sorry for the silence, I've been in Auckland.
I can't make Saturday as I am in Eketahuna for a family get together (I will be plotting though in any corner I find myself in). I will do my damnedest to get to Sunday but family from England are still around.

Obviously, I wasn't at the kick off. Just back from the mother of all 'holidays' in OAMARU. Could make a Sunday meet up. 2pm, 3pm, all good for me. Dunno if I'll do any writing, I'll just try not to spill coffee on people's laptops. I hear that computers, unlike people, function less efficiently after being filled with coffee.

Hello other palmerston northians
I'd be keen to come today and meet some other writers but unfortunately exams at the moment.
I'm at Massey and I only finish exams on the 6th
So I'll be a late starter sigh
but maybe there can be another write in or something another time - like part way through so all the uni students can join in
cheers
Rob

Hi chaps!
I just joined, so obviously I missed the kickoff. If anyone plans another get-together of some sort I'd be game. I have a laptop and all :D
This is going to be interesting. I usually don't have a problem sitting down and writing - the white paper doesn't scare me at all. But can't vouch for the quality of what'll come out if I do what in this website has been aptly described as "the kamikaze approach."
Good times.

Yeah - any more get-togethers planned?
I'm working hard to get that 'cushion' of lots of words this week so I can go a little easier as the month, and my inspiration levels, wears down...

So what's everyones' story about?
thought it may be a cool idea to have a talk about them here since we're all palmerston northians.
Mine's about a bunch of students being trapped at school while an immensely strong cyclone batters the buildings outside. And before long the students realise they aren't the only ones inside the schools gloomy walls.
Basically going to be a horror, with lots of unsuspected turns... i hope haha
It'd be cool to hear what all of ya are doing.
cheers Rob

I put an intro on my Novel Info page:
"The novel is set in an unreal setting where time is compressed running into the present. Life turns to shadow due to the Limit of Life, except for a few individuals that hold an enchanted stone that protects them from this event. The same stone, just held by different individuals in different points of time. A wizard coming from the times when this stone was created starts to gather these people and recruit their help to set time right again."
I have a few scenes already in my head, a general idea about the story, and the character development of the protagonist, the wizard, and the Big Bad. Rough idea of the development of another two characters, and a handful of support cast that right now are pretty one-dimensional.
My biggest problem during the week is lack of time. I don't have much trouble sitting down and just filling paper with words... Just don#t think they'll be too good at this speed! :)

Thought I'd drop in and say hi. I'm missing my Palmy co-writers, and the friendly service at RH :(.

Hi Fran! We missed you! People asked where you were and all *sniff*
Other Palmerston Northians: Sorry! I set the site to automatically update me of new posts to this thread, but obviously it hasn't done so at all. There will DEFINITELY be other meet-ups/write-ins - one every week, in fact! I'll do a separate post about it now - at this stage it'll almost certainly be 2pm Saturday at Robert Harris, though, since that day/time seems best for everyone. Let me know in the other Palmy thread if that doesn't work for you!

Hi you P Nthians. I'm from sunny Otaki, so halfway between you and our beloved capital. I'm interested in get togethers. Working full time its not always easy to get to anyone's meetings, but it would be nice not to be the only sunshine Coaster arround!
