...So I'm curious. What's your favourite Toronto NaNo event?
My favourite event is the kick off party for all its sheer exuberance, the novel ideas building up in the aether but not yet begun to be written, the new people met and the excitement and anticipation for what's to come!
I also like the part where I'm sitting at home, writing alone.
What's yours?

The TGIO is both my favorite and least favorite event.
Its my favorite because we, together, have forged friendships and novels, side by side, through thick and thin, and emerged victorious! It is the celebratory feast that we share together as a family of sorts!
But it is my least favorite because it also means NaNo is over and reality sets in. Life goes back to normal, until next year.

TGIO for sure. It's got the epic quality of looking back over a job well done while fondly reminiscing over a month of good times. Also, best turnout.

My favourites last year were the overnighter and the TGIO party. I would say they were probably tied for favourite. :)
I liked the overnighter because of the mass chaos -- I mean, by the morning time we're all absolutely incoherent from the lack of sleep. :D The TGIO party was great for the same reasons Alley mentioned. We had just spent 30 days trying to write a 50k word novel, and over the month we really bond and get to know each other. <3
I also really enjoyed the karaoke night, which is why I'm trying to plan it for us this year. :)

Most definitely the Overnighter, Just a massive amoutn of people all working at the same time toward a goal, it is most definitely a boost when you need it. I wrote 10k in like 4 or 5 hours last year. It was awesome.

My favourite is the kick off party, for the reasons Victoria mentioned.

The overnight writing session will always be my favourite. The Kick-off party comes in a close second though.

The Overnighter, definitely (I do my best work at night!), but the subway writing session comes in close second. That was just pure fun, and I did get writing done. (Plus we got some interested questions asked!)
But yes, the overnighter rocked. And I can definitely go again this year, no matter what shift I'm working! Yay!

I definitely love the Overnighter, and am super-sad that I wasn't able to make it last year. This year, I've already marked it on my calendar, and will only be missing it if I'm seriously ill.

Since the opening and ending are on Tuesdays this year, I can't attend.
So it's gotta be karioke! If you can't write, sing...now where is that opera libretto I was working on?

I've got to agree with all those who voted overnighter. I think it counts as one of the highlights of my year.

Okay, I lied. Or maybe I forgot how much fun I always have at the halfway party - but I do. Every year. And that was, no holds barred, THE BEST HALFWAY PARTY EVAH! The balloon fight at the end was especially spectacular (who has photos?!).
Thanks to all who were there for a great evening - I'm looking forward to next weekend and the overnighter :D

I didn't attend last year, and now I know what I missed out on. Holy crap, we should do this every month!! XD
But anyways, I think from this year, having gone to the brunch and the subway-write in and all...I think the halfway party was pretty freaking awesome!! Saw a lot of new faces, was able to have a drink, there were some cool things going on like that song for one, and we had readings and heard some pretty cool stories....and we can't forget the BALLOON FIGHT!!!
XD
