We had 2 ideas tossed around yesterday for our TGIO party in December--one to have it at Firehouse on Galena with a live DJ. One to have it at (Jester---help me out!) a bar/grille in East Peoria when Jester's band is playing.

Mid-month I want to have a movie night...maybe at one of the libraries with writerly movies. I have The Secret Window with Johnny Depp and Stranger than Fiction with Will Ferrell. Someone also suggested we had to watch Misery with Kathy Bates. So--who would be interested in that? It would likely be Saturday the 14th...

Also, wanted to feel out how many of you might be interested in A-A NaNo Carols writing contest and B-Singing the NaNo Carols for donations (if we suck, we can always ask for donations to STOP singing-hee) for NaNoWriMo & its affiliated programs. The idea is this--take a well known holiday song, like Jingle Bells, Over the River and Through the Woods, Auld Lang Syne and replace the known lyrics with writing/NaNoWriMo related themes. For instance (hum a bar of Jingle Bells with me!) "NaNo books! NaNo books! Written all month long. Now they're done, so much fun! Why don't you take a look?" Yeah...lame...but crazy fun lame. =) There would be a prize for the winner of the contest & then if you don't have the funds to contribute--you can write a song, sing the tune & we can send the check with donation $ into The Office of Letters and Light with everyone who participated on the list.

What other crazy fun lame and non-lame ideas do you all have? Let's hear them!!

My band, 3 Jack Voodoo will be playing at the Scoreboard in Metamora (on the main drag through town, right across from Metamora Pharmacy) on December 5th. It's a Saturday. They have a kitchen (I don't know what all they serve besides pizza), but it's also a bar. For people under 21, you can come in and eat and blow off steam, for those over 21 who want to continue blowing off steam, my band takes the stage at 9 and plays til 1 am.

I also have 2 gigs in November, on the 21st and 28th, if you need a mid-month break. The 21st I believe we are playing in Streator, the 28th at Go-T's in Peoria, on NE Adams. Go-T's used to be a variety of other bars in past years, like the Steelhorse Saloon, Statesboro, and Lukky's.

Drop me a line if you want more info...

Now this is what I was talking about regarding NaNo Carols! Eensybeensyspider invited us all to share her rendition of 'Twas The Night Before [NaNo] with all of you. Love it!

'Twas the night before NaNo, when all through the house
Not a keyboard was typing, not a click of a mouse.
The stickers were hung by the writer with care,
In Hopes that a Novel, soon would be there.

The Editors were nestled, all snug in their beds,
While visions of red pens, danced in their heads.
with Chris Baty in his viking hat and I in my shirt,
All the wrimo's world wide, sat waiting to work.

When out on the lawn, there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from my writing spot, to see what was the matter.
Away to the window, I flew like a flash,
Tore open the window, threw up the sash.

The moon was big, with a very bright glow
and it looked like a screen that had something to show.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a story and eight characters.

With a little plot arc ,so lively and round,
I knew in a moment, "My Novel - I've found!"
More rapid then eagles the chapters they came
and the story whistled and shouted and called things by name,

"Now characters, Now plot arcs, now storylines and more,
"On conflict, On turmoil, On plot twists galore.
To the top of the plot line, to November's 50 K
Now write away, write away, write away today."

As dead words before the wild month fly,
When they meet with a Muse and mount to the sky
So up to my desk top these coursers, they flew
with a slew full of ideas, and my muse too.

And then in a twinkling I heard on my desk
The smattering of words, taking one last rest.
As I drew in my hand and was turning around
Appeared, did my muse, in one single bound.

It was dressed in all words, from it's head to it's foot
and it's clothes were all tarnished with erasure gook.
It's bundle of stories were flung on it's back
And it looked like Chris Baty - What's up with that?

It's eyes how they shimmered, It's dimples how scary,
It's cheeks were all blustery, it's smile so merry.
It's droll little mouth was drawn up like an "oh"
And not a beard on it's chin, that'd be freaky, ya know?

The stump of a pencil it held tight in it's teeth,
And punctuation encircled it it's head like a wreath.
It had a bright face and a round cuppa coffee
That shook when it laughed, without ever sloshing.

It was awkward and lumpy, a right crazy old elf
And I laughed when I saw it, inspite of myself.
A wink of Its eye and a twist of Its head,
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread.

It spoke not a word, but went straight to my desk
And It looked at my blank page then said, "Surely you Jest"
Laying its fingers aside of my keys, It winked at me once,
And slid inward with ease.

It sprang on my screen, to the words it gave whistle
and away they all flew to it, like the down of a thistle
But I heard it exclaim, err it faded into the night
"Happy NaNo to all, tonight you shall write!"

movie night sounds good, the date's fine with me.
I could carol too, I guess, though I'm pretty broke, being a student and all.
I don't know that I have any writerly movies...maybe if you considered Love, Actually and Moulin Rouge...

I like the idea of a movie night. Misery seems perfect but kind of heavy. I was thinking more along the lines of Funny Farm with Chevy Chase. Something more lighthearted to laugh at ourselves!

Funny Farm would be a great idea! I have Stranger Than Fiction, which isn't a straight comedy, but is somewhat lighthearted too. I have The Secret Window, which would fall in more with Misery--but let me see what I can do for a movie day...
_______
Nobody else has shown interest in NaNo Carols...so I'm not sure if that's going to happen or not. =( So far, it's just me, my daughter & you! =( Although my daughter has a trained voice, I definitely do not--bigger chorus would make me feel much more comfortable! ;o) And, actually the caroling idea was hatched by a college town somewhere in a different region (I think even a different country) --though they sang standard carols last year. I thought it was a brilliant idea for Wrimos to donate, without having to come up with their own cash. =)
