Come to the kick-off and write-ins if you can. Meeting other people and keeping in contact with them all month can keep you motivated. (Our first word war, two people met and started racing each other. They both finished only because of their private word war.)
Stay active in the forums. (Not just SLC, but there are plenty others to help motivate you).
Watch for IMs and chats, and participate in the word sprints during them. (We often gather in Yahoo IM chat sessions. Also, utoxin created a chat room for Utah last year; no sign of it yet this year. We'll often set a 20 or 30 minute timer and race each other in bits.)

I'll be trying to resurrect that chatroom this week, along with the wordwar stats page. I've been struggling to finish a side project that's eating up all my time, but it is nearly done. I expect to wrap it up tonight.
