Wow, your stories sound really good, can't wait to hear more. Hopefully I can have a summary up soon too so you all can see what my story is about.

So far it's air ships and Victorian closes and spaceships and a quest to find a cure for a sentient bacteria that kills from the inside out. :) I'm hoping for big inspiration in the next couple of days so I can start on time.

I'm not even sure what genre that would be considered anymore actually. lol

I'm seriously excited to start this year. My main character is beating the side of my skull asking why I haven't put him on paper yet.

Anyway, I've got a sequel on my hands. Last year I wrote a sort of coming of age story about a girl named Jocelyn and her sister, Rae. This year, I've got Jocelyn's son Aiden. Another sort of coming of age story. I guess. I just make them as real as possible. lol. I even use "wanna" and "gonna" in dialogue. Some people think that's odd.

So, Magnolia and Lapis Lazuli.

I'm doing a horror/thriller, which is a first for me, despite the fact that I love horror movies and novels, I usually end up writing comedies.

I'm doing an adventure novel with a little fantasy thrown in for fun. I've done straight-up genre novels before, and I prefer to have a little wiggle room. Last year I did a humor novel, and it blew up in my face. Granted, I won; but the plot more than sucked. The plot drew an intense vacuum. So this year I am actually outlining the plot [a little]. My story is about a young woman who can't find a job and takes an internship at a catering company in the middle of nowhere as a driver. It turns out that the catering company employs all the cursed and non-cursed princesses whose prince charmings never showed up. The clients are all princesses waiting for princes/knights/some hot dude, but they only get two and a half years before they are rotated out of the system and take jobs at the catering company. There are some strange problems popping up at the catering company, and it seems that someone is sabotaging it from the inside.
Those are the basics.

ooOOoOoo Steampunk! <3333 I'll definitely be checking in on that!

I'm actually... writing a fanfiction. My first one I'll ever finish if I do finish NaNo. Is it bad to write a fanfiction? I'm capable of original stories, but this one just seems so close to my heart right now. >>;;

Thriller. I want to give my readers nightmares, make them shocked and obsessed! That is what I like to experience when I read... Got a lot ahead, since this is my first novel. Writing has possessed me my entire life!

ahhh i love thrillers!!
i'm halfway through one. its more of a thriller/heavy romance novel. i was gonna use nano to finish up this year but it felt kind of like cheating since i already had a plot that was coming at me faster than i could type -- i'd miss out on the mad rush! & i may not have enough story left for 50k words lol.
let me know how it goes :)

I'm writing a romantic suspense this year.

I wrote a book years ago that is so over plotted--six plots. I am going with my original idea and starting from scratch with those characters and my original premise. Hopefully this time I will be able to control my characters.

I started with an autobiography of my imaginary friend (from the adoptable stuff). Then once I started this morning it became an interview with an imaginary friend who is not mine, and who is not quite so friendly and seems to be the cause of every genocide and tyrant in history. He is to be put to "death" at the end of this month and a reporter wants to make his name by writing his story.

Needless to say I have no plot and I'm totally wiinging it.

I'm going to pop out 50,000 words in short stories and make a collection about anger, and the consequences of. I'm super excited, I wrote a novella two years back and this time I just feel the need to plump up my short story portfolio. Good luck everyone!

Young Adult - sci-fi/coming of age/adventure/beat the bad guys kind of thing :P

My main character (& thousands of other humans) have had to flee the Earth due to an impending asteroid on a collision course with the plant & they crash land on another planet quite similar to earth. It forces them to revert to "olden" times (riding animals, using bows and swords, etc) because there is no electricity and the only way (some) machines work is mysteriously due to red rocks they find on the planet. There's also a killer red dust floating around, a vice president who's made his own dictatorship, a city in a dome and a race of cat people called Felinians who will help save the day. Yay!

I'm working on epic fantasy based on a short story I wrote a couple of years ago. It apparently wants to be Book 1, so think really really long with so many characters that I have to consult my list all the time. Well, I don't have that many yet, but I will! So some of it may be the stereotypical forces of evil arrive to destroy everything, some unlikely heroes must save everyone, etc, but I'm hoping to make my characters particularly interesting, and I think the magic system and races that inhabit this land are fairly unique.

OK, so this is my very first time doing this and I've been a little apprehensive. So much so that I froze yesterday and couldn't get anything written.

Here's my idea...it's crime/suspense and about rare coins. So far my protagonist is a guy who gets his girlfriend mixed up in the whole mess without even realizing it. I've been reading all the other posts and today I'm going to take the advice of just sitting down to write and not worry about it being crap.

Good luck to everyone! See you at the finish line.

Well mine was suppossed to be a young adult fantasy....but then I started off with one death, one murder, and then a suicide so I'm thinking it's more of an adult one now.

But we'll just see where this all goes.

A humorous mash-up, I think. It's basically the creation of a starter world/character from a blank space. I'm sure it'll spiral out of control as I get sleepier and sleepier....

Vampires.
I'm trying to get rid of the romance stereotype and make them bloodthirsty and sex drived.

I'm just trying to write an entire novel set in a traffic jam. So far, my biggest problem is that it's not banal enough. I have spies and crazy biker chicks and screaming mothers and jackass traffic reporters among my characters.

All of your stories sound amazing! I know what books I'll be buying if they're ever published :)

Since I'm technically a kid, I'm writing a young adult novel. It's paranormal romance/friendship.

I thought about doing the short story thing, but my market is 800 word short stories. That means I'd have to write 63 stories and even though my idea file is huge, I doubt I could write 63 new ideas in 30 days.

I wish you the best on doing it. Let me know how it goes.
