Recently moved to Woodstock. How's the WriMo population around here? I'd be really interested in going to a write-in, but I'm not quite sure if I could organize one myself.

FINALLY LESS THAN 6 HOURS TIL WE CAN START =D!!!!!!!!!! And if we do plan a Write-In at some point, I think Kingston is sort of the "Middle Ground" between all of us (that mentioned where they are so far).

My home is Kingston, even though I'm in Vermont at college right now. If there's ever a write-in or anything like that in or around Kingston that takes place on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday, please let me know, because I can be there with enough notice(aka a day or two), and I'd love to go to a write in where I actually live, not just where I go to school.
Thanks!

I agree.
----------Kingston would probably be our best bet for a get together-- that or Woodstock.
Woodstock has a lot of nice places for get togethers; but if we try asking at Barnes and Noble in Kingston, maybe they'll allow us to arrange something there.

So I was talking to Sins4sailors and we thought that we should try and organize a write-in every week, and since I (along with other people) can't meet during the week, that we should meet at Barnes & Noble in Kingston (1177 Ulster Avenue, Kingston, NY 12401 if you need directions) every Saturday, Nov. 7th, 14th, 21st, and 28th. As for the hours, just show up between 10AM and 7PM and just stay as long as possible because we know that everyone has other things that they need to do. I'm pretty sure I covered all the important ground of this. If any questions arise just ask.

If you guys need help with anything let me know. Let me know if this Saturday is a definite ^_^

I'm over in Glasco. I have to work Saturdays at 5pm but I could always stop by Barnes and Noble beforehand. Saturdays are usually sleeping days but I'm going to coffee it up because I have a few ideas for books in the works and I feel this is the motivation I need. I'm glad I found this thing.

I'll definitely be there the 28th. As for the other Saturdays, I'm not sure. Maybe this Saturday, if things work out, or next Saturday, depending on my paychecks.

Hello Ulster County Peeps!!!
Barnes and Noble is a good idea, but Pannera could also be good because they have free WiFi for those of us who need to research something on the net. Also, we might want to check with B&N about availability. I do know that they prefer a heads up when groups are coming into the store.

I had actually been discussing Panera with c_brant :)
We could hang out in Barnes and Noble for a while (although, that would be our writing time most likely... since I'm sure they want us to be quiet) and we could all head over to Panera for lunch :) We could discuss our stories and such there too, since they're more open to talking. haha.
I'm glad that both the Barnes and Noble and panera idea just might work!!
(I usually have work at 5 on Saturdays... sometimes sooner... but my work is right in Kingston, so I could DEFINITELY hang our there beforehand)

I am freaking out here. For some "crazy" reason when I signed up for NanoWrimo this summer it flew out of my mind that we only had 30 days to write. I told everyone I had a year to write a novel. Lol, but not funny. I'm writing off the top of my head, but I'm having a problem with pov. It sounds like I'm a narrator(well, I am), but with little dialogue, just thoughts. So far, its all over the place. There will be 3 main characters. What is the best way to go about writing this? I was looking for the writing 101 forum but could not find it. Thanks in advance.

To be perfectly honest, I, too, write off the top of my head. Personally, I find it to be much easier than planning everything out. For example, I know basically the major plot points that MUST happen, however, the rest is come and go. I've never really been able to set up rough drafts or such with my writing before-- even for school work.
As for the pov thing... I'm not entirely sure. Personally, I've been told to write like you're watching a film. Take note of everything around the characters, make it like you're watching a movie. It's important to balance out both description/narration and dialogue throughout your piece. In my series, actually, I have about 5 or 6 "main" (or so they could be called) characters, and I know what you mean.
However, for my novel for nanowrimo, I'm focusing on 3 main characters, as well. I'm sorry if I really couldn't be much of a help... or if I completely attempted at answering your question wrong :P

Thank you for responding. I'm totally going to use your advice and write like I'm watching a film with respect to the characters surroundings. I think I'm just going to write, write, write, and worry about editing and the good stuff later. I'm also about to start 4 online courses, so...momma's going to be busy. Good luck!

Hello all! I live in Olivebridge part time and in NYC part time. It's awesome to see so many people from the area participating in NaNo!

OK, I must admit it. I haven't even finished my prologue yet. I'm only a little over 1,000 words into the book. However, I have been able to outline the entire novel. I found a WONDERFUL free software program online called Y Writer that is great for helping to organize your characters, items, arcs, locations, etc...

I am not affiliated with this at all, I'm just really happy with the software.

Ywriter is great. I don't actually use it to write my story but outline and to write out detailed bios on my characters.
Glad you found something like like!

Yeah, I'm with you. I'm not using Y writer to write the novel, but it was great for organizing information. Instead, I'm actually using Open Office. I created a template if anyone needs it.
