They have this thing in Seattle (at least, that's what I've heard, maybe it's just an urban legend). Everyone there, every time they go out to write somewhere, takes a duck with them. Maybe it's stuffed or rubber or simply in a cage. I'm not totally sure. The important thing, however, is that "Plot Duckiy" sounds really dumb. I mean, Portland's WAY cooler than that, right?

Last year, I tried to get people together to try something like this. I wanted something cool and chic that would strike FEAR into the hearts of well-meaning Seattlites. Bunnies. (Cue Anya from Buffy.)

Wouldn't it be really fantastic if every time you went into a coffee shop you would see people on their laptops or netbooks or with pen and paper writing beside stuffed/knit/felted/caged bunnies? You'd know in your heart of hearts that they were there for the same reason that you were. They, just like you, are RoseCityWriMos.

The Central Portland Meet and Greet crew contemplated this very idea. How neat-o would it be for such a thing to happen? Such a thing to take place and sweep across this fair land we know as PORTLAND? I will answer this question by simply saying, "Pretty darn neat-o."

I know a lot of you are crafty people. You like to sew, knit, crochet, live-capture bunnies from the NaNoWild (Yes, the very soul and spirit of Chris Baty is transferred across this great noveling land in bunny form). You will create the most dangerous and fearsome creature of all: The Ninja Plot Bunny (tm, AmandaWolfe).

Here, then, is a place to list patterns and ideas for where/how you're going to go about getting/making your bunnies. Have a photo of your own, personal PlotBunnyOfAWESOME (tm, nibo)? Share it! Please!!

These are all knit, but I'm sure there are others of you out there with other-craft patterns. Share them and share pictures of your bunny companions!

I am so on it! Any ideas how we can "ninja" them up? I'm a much better crocheter than a knitter but these bunny nuggets are SO calling to me.

I'm neither, but I can come up with a bunny pattern you can make from old sweaters if anyone is interested. You sew the front and back together and stuff it with polyfill or somesuch. And sew on buttons and pieces of felt for decoration. I have a perfect old purple sweater I don't wear anymore for mine.. and some black felt would make a great little ninja eye-band thingy. :)

I love this idea and will try to fashion my bunny before Sunday. The bunny nuggets are just about the cutest things I've ever seen, but unfortunately I only know how to use knitting needles as projectile weapons (and not for their intended, peaceful purpose).

I do have an exceedingly creepy stuffed bunny that someone gave me as a kid; I wouldn't mind tricking it out and experimenting on it. Heheh.

I've done a couple of these little dudes, the pattern is free at Lion Brand Yarn's web site (when the economy tanked they made all their patterns free, the better to sell their yarn no doubt ;) ) It's a crocheted amigurumi bunny. Change colors to suit your tastes.

In about 15 minutes, Dublin Bay opens up downstairs from me. I'm going to see if they have the critter needle felting kits, and if they do, see if they have bunnies.

I also make polar fleece bunnies with hand embroidered designs and faces.... I can make ninja bunnies that way as well... they're bigger, though. almost as big as my little netbook... certainly taller. Currently the ones made up are Goth Bunnies... I have two of those floating around. wanted to try selling them on Etsy, but no one wanted them... the b**tards.

So, If I can find a kit for a felted bunny, I'll make one... if not, I'll bring one of my fleece bunnies with me.

This is a brilliant idea. Anyone want to go to one of the write-ins with knitting gear and teach me how to do some DPN work? I've been an off and on knitter for a while now, and For some reason I just /can't/ figure them out. I need someone in real life to show me. :)

I know that feeling! I'm actually trying to just wing the bunny nugget in crochet, since I'm better at that. I still haven't figured out what to do in knitting if the loops fall off my needles.

I hate it that I just found this thread and I don't have time to make a bunny. I do, however, have some critters that help me with my writing and I will bring them. I will make a bunny for next year.

My Bunny is a ceramic lop-ear with sentimental value. :0)

(Plus, I gave up crafts when I took up writing. I need focus!)

I made my sweater bunny today.. it took about an hour and a half. I'll bring patterns and stuff to the Shari's write-in if anyone is interested. I named my bunny Mortimer. He's got a faux leather eyeband. I'll bring him too.

Great idea! I have a crocheted amigurumi bunny, but I think I'll try out the bunny nuggets tonight/tomorrow - they look pretty quick. Have a couple of actual bunnies, as well, but they're.... rather counter-productive when it comes to writing. Or work of any sort for that matter. Unfortunately, they're probably not too welcome in a lot of places and are firmly against being locked up for any period of time.

Looking forward to seeing all the bunnies!

i made a shimmery glam bunny today... i freehanded a pattern, went out and bought some fun ribbon and embellishments, then stitched her up and stuffed her! she is GlitterHeartNaNoBunny, and she will be with me wherever i go to write! so if you see a pink and purple bunny with a silver heart with wings, ribbons, and button eyes next to a laptop or notebook, stop by and say hi :-)

I picked up my WoolPet Bunny kit on my way up to a halloween party in North PDX... Once I was in my costume and had done what I could for set up, I took the kit out and made me a bunny. I have extra, Connie, I can make one for you... plain or Ninja Bunny style (black mask).

He's REALLY cute!!!

You know what would be really hysterical is if we each make some kind of bunny, and send them to Chris Baty and the team in Oakland! :)

Amanda, If there's still time, I'd LOVE a bunny! I'd prefer Ninja but I will take anything I can get! You're so nice to me! I just remembered that I have a bunny all dressed up that I found at a secondhand store a few years ago. She's kinda big so I don't know if I can bring her and all my other stuff.

It took me about an hour last night to make... he's not big. but he's really cute. and I can easily make him a Ninja.

Now, if I could only figure out how to make felted nunchucks....

Amanda

ETA: I just got more wool and felted me a bigger bunny... so you can take your pick

Hmmm.... I'm flying to visit some friends on Saturday (yes, I'm crazy for doing this in the middle of November. I am aware.) and since my computer's battery is dead, I can't actually use it if it isn't plugged in. So, I need something to do for all the time I won't be hooked in. Do they let you take knitting needles on planes? Probably not. Damn.

The TSA's website says "yes!" to knitting! Probably safest to take something inoffensive like wooden dpns (or plastic) and not, like, 14" size 6 metal straight needles that could put an eye out or something.

I made a Plot Bunny while watching some Doctor Who (4th Doctor) last night!

(picured with another doll I finished recently and an episode of MST3k :D)

A heads up... due to my talking about the NPB's, they may make a rare appearance at the Opening Ceremonies at OryCon Friday evening of Thanksgiving weekend....

And the Head Ninja Bunny, rumored to be quite a sizable bunny in stature, may make the rarest appearance of all. He does quite love terrorizing fandom, you know.

Further updates as I hear about them.

Strangely enough, I have no stuffed bunnies.
Stranger still, I have no urge to have a stuffed bunny.
I will, however, wrinkle my nose and stick my teeth out in a buck like fashion on occasion.
