Okay folks! Here's the scoop. The Kick-Off slash Shove-Off slash Gentle Nudge slash Meet n Greet will be:

Date: Saturday, October 31st
Time: 1 pm (until people get bored or need to go change for Trick or Treating;-)
Location: Cafe La Flore (Clement Street at 12th Avenue. It's sort of across the street from an Ace Hardware store)
Buses: East/West - 2 Clement, 38 Geary, 1 California
North/South - 28 (how can I not remember what this line is called, I take this bus all the time!)

This is a chance for everyone in the SF Region to meet each other without laptops, earplugs, headphones or the sound of frenzied keyboard keys being tapped triple time. We can hang out, ask each other about our novels-to-be, favorite genres, books and authors. What we did before November 1st and what we will do after November 30th.

It's also a good opportunity to compare notes on cafe's and arrange future Write-Ins.

And PLEASE bring your questions and concerns! I'm sure there will be some Nano veterans at the Kick-Off who can talk about their own experiences and what's worked for them. Whether your questions are about Nanowrimo or about writing, bring it on. One of the many wonderful things about Nano is that although it is very much a challenging contest, and there is a sense of competition in the air, we all want you to succeed. The Nano community is one of the most supportive and helpful I've ever encountered (and I should know since I wrote a book about community building).

Lastly, I'll buy the first cup of coffee or tea for anyone at the Kick-Off. After that, y'all are on your own.

Let me know if you are pretty sure you will attend The Kick-Off so I can let the owner know (he'd like to move tables around so we can all sit together)

Hello WithAnticipation and Everyone,

This is my first time participating, not to mention my first full day knowing about this activity! I couldn't sleep last night because I was trying to come up with an idea for a novel in just one day. Nonetheless, I will be attending the kick-off tomorrow (unless something unexpected comes up). I really like the idea of weekly gettogethers to support each other. I will probably be the only person there using pen/pencil and paper so don't laugh! :)

Thank you and I'll see some of you tomorrow.

I'll definitely be there. I'm looking forward to it, and to picking the brains of all the veterans there! If anyone else from State wants to go with me (so they don't have to find the right bus routes and all that) let me know!

Also, WithAnticipation, the 28 is "19th Ave."

Cheers all!

Put me down as a probably. I'm always up for coffee, independent of pretext. Be warned, if I come, I'll be trying to strong-arm people into joining in on the 12:01 start at Starbucks.

I have a friend who is handwriting hers and I'm sure you two are not the only ones. Some writers simply think better using a pen/pencil/quill than on the computer. Tolstoy wrote "War and Peace" by hand and it's said that his long suffering wife recopied it 8 times. I have great respect for the pen.

Sadly, I am not going to make the kick-off or the 12:01 starting get together. My husband's grandparents will be arriving tomorrow for a once-in-a-lifetime trip to San Francisco, and I'm apparently required to spend time with them rather than noveling. *shrug*

Just kidding, they're great, and they drove all the way from Texas! I will be kicking off my novel at 12:01 Saturday night/Sunday morning. I have a word-count quota to meet, after all. I'll be with all of you in spirit!

Kristen

Hey Kristen! Okay, well I "guess" that's a good enough reason, lol. Let me know when you might be available for a Write-In or two - I'd love to see you again.

I'll stop by! This is not my first NaNo, but it's my first year coming out of hiding and meeting fellow NaNo-ers. ;)

Hey, With Anticipation & fellow SF Wrimos,

Sorry to have missed the Kick-Off. I had travel plans and just flew back in tonight. In fact, just learned of it. Sigh. Hope it was great. Looking forward to meeting you in write-ins & other future events.

Good luck at the 12:01 start at the 24/7 Starbucks! Unfortunately I have too many other responsibilities on Sunday to be sleep-deprived so I will be doing my first writing during the daylight hours.

Rock on, SF wrimos! Let the games begin!
