This is where we can triple dog dare eachother to include some pretty spiffy ideas in our novels.
Come visit when you're out of ideas, or when you feel up to a challenge.

No Dare is too great for those who are Far from Hope.

I dare someone to kill their main character's best friend off right now! A quick and unexpected death. Like being struck by lightning, or the old bridge finally breaks just as s/he is driving over it and drowns in the river below. Or something less dramatic. Or more. Whatever. It just has to be a quick and totally unexpected death.

You can of course have your main character, or someone else, revive the best friend later. If you want. Think of Iolaus. He was brought back many times for Hercules.... :D

Nobody's man, or woman, enough to take a dare. Or dare I say make a dare to someone or everyone.

Well, I made the first dare, and am almost going to do it. But not in this NaNo. Rather the sequel to this story. I'm killing off one of my main character's best friends. Turns out he betrayed her and has been doing so for centuries. She's mad!

Okay, I will make another dare... Your character will have a crazy dream tonight that has nothing to do with anything in your entire plot. It's just a random dream. Maybe you can use the dream you had last night.

I did it!
I wasn't ready for the first dare - mostly because I wasn't completely sure who my main character was, let alone his/her best friend! The main character has changed 3 times now, but I think he's finally settling in.

So the dream challenge worked well. Did the dream sequence and it led beautifully into the next piece I needed to write. Don't know if it will make it through revisions, but that's not important at this stage.

So thanks for the challenge!

Awesome! I'm so excited that someone used one of my dares! Yay! Good for you! Yeah, it was just a random dream that had nothing to do with the plot--hmm... I think I will be using a dream in the next bit I write, though it will have something to do with the plot, in a way.

Any more dares from anyone else?

Maybe I should do another...?

Have a character (any character) use lyrics from a song you are currently listening to or have stuck in your head. They just have to say a line that's directly from a song, they don't have to actually be sining, although they could. Maybe they are singing in the shower or singing to a kid trying to go to bed. Or they just blurt out at work..?

LOL... umm... how do I squeeze in "Round and round the cobbler's bench..." ? Good dare, I'll try and work it in to my story tonight. Maybe I'll have something a little more mature running through my head by then! :)

I will add a dare to kill off a main character using a pool noodle. Continuing along the pool theme, Have a character who is a cliff diver discover a severe and previously unknown allergy to water during a rain storm. Then figure out how they did not know about this sooner.

I tried the dare, and it's kinda killing my story. But then I figured I'd just replace the dead friend with the most unexpected person. A complete oposite. It's turning out tobe a comedy!

I dare someone to have their main character approaced by a long lost friend who needs a place to stay and lots of cash.....for something they won't talk about.

Kinda korny, but I just tried to come up with one impuslively.....

I can do the "something they won't talk about" part of that dare... because my female character has a secret she is keeping from my main male character. Except he doesn't know she has this secret. He will find out though, but not from her. It nearly costs him his life.

Ooh, another dare to try out... something easy... Umm... oohh.... err... Make your character wear a vibrant green dress. Could be for a Halloween/costume party, especailly if they are a guy. If you can work in the song "If I had a Million Dollars" by the Barenaked Ladies (the lyrics "if I had a million dollars I would buy you a green dress, but not a real green dress, that's cruel" try to squeeze those in) that would be even better. The dress could be ugly or beautiful, your choice.

~~~
Glad there are people williny to try my dares :P Thanks!
