hi,
so after the map and mingle event, i realized that cafe milano has issues. of course, no place is ideal, and those of you who still want to meet up at cafe milano on tuesdays, feel free.
but i'm not going to be there with the extension cord and power strip. setting that up, weaving the cord through a tree and fending my way through stressed out cal students cramming for biochemistry, plus the awful parking was just too much for me. candace (the berkeley based ML from last year) apparently made this work and didn't mind it, but I don't want to take it on.
so...if you want cafe milano on tuesdays, be warned that the set up is a bit much to get enough power. or you could charge up before hand.
I just checked out Cafe Trieste on Piedmont in Oakland, and that place has:
1. TONS of parking. a LOT, people. and by that i mean, a parking lot right behind the place. (plus street parking) and it's free after 6.
2. EIGHT outlets in two locations, on the SAME FLOOR! (no balcony dropping tree weaving action here!)
3. good food
4. good coffee
So I think this is going to be my nano haunt, toy mouse in tow (see my other post, "of mice and east bay wrimos"). (sorry for the double posting)
If I can get a few people on this thread to say "hey yeah I'd like to be at Cafe Trieste on Tuesdays from 7-10!" I will feel justified in sending a message to the MLs to add that to the calendar.
Thanks!

I'll try to come, but Cafe Milano was way more convenient, right by campus... we'll see if the bus system will serve me well.

It's very close to my house. I'm going to a wedding this Tuesday, so probably can't make it. But please post a reminder next week and I'll try to be there. By the way, "Walter" is my father's name He was an awesome writer who never quite got around to publishing much. So I took his name as user name on an impulse. Now I find it can't be changed. So here I am a 60+female "Walter."

You can easily get to Cafe Trieste by bus. You can take the 51 and get off at San Pablo and transfer to the 72, or just walk down San Pablo from University to Dwight, about 5 or 6 blocks, well traveled and I've never had trouble walking there. Or you can take the 9 bus and get off right at Dwight and San Pablo. It doesn't run as often as the 51 but it's a cute little bus and fun to ride.

It' been brought to my attention that there are two cafe Triestes in the East Bay (at least) one in Piedmont, and the one near my house on "The Flats." Which one are we talking about, or are we divided? If divided, maybe we can have one at each.

Sooooo.... I know there are going to be people at the Caffe Trieste in Oakland tomorrow and on Tuesday nights in general.
BUT, if anybody wants to do an evening (doesn't have to be Tuesday) at the Caffe Trieste at Dwight & San Pablo ... well, that would be super awesome. Because I live four blocks from there. And I don't have a car. And it's getting dark so freakin' early now.
If anybody is up for this, preference on days?

Found out the 52L and 51 (which I'm most familiar with) will take me to Broadway and 40th, so I'll be there! Can't wait to meet other Nano peeps and get some serious writing done! Hope Caffe Trieste has some good treats...

It was great seeing the crowd of NaNo-ers at Cafe Trieste tonight! You can always tell when you see a series of tables crammed full of laptops. :-)
Sorry I didn't have stickers for all of you. I'll try to make it up.
Oh, and I heartily recommend the Margherita pizza!

I had a slice of chocolate cake, but I'm definitely going to have to try the pizza next time! It was great being a part of a Nano group, definitely a big contrast to the last time I participated (all alone in the Central Valley)... can't wait until next week! And thanks again for the ride home, zephyr40k!
Today was a great day as far as writing - 4,000 words, what what!

Thanks to everyone at Caffe Trieste- last night was a lot of fun. I did not get a great deal written, because I am not used to writing in public - with all of the surrounding sounds. I did download both Scrivener and Open Office this morning, so I will not be so dependant on the 'net and Google docs. Still behind in word count - but - still in the running.
Oh - and the canolli - has a semi sweet chocolate coating over a buttery shell - stuffed with sweet, sweet ricotta deliciousness. Worth it.

Hey there,
Last night was a great deal of fun and also pretty productive for me, considering I wasn't there for that long. Thanks for organizing this. I'm looking forward to next week!

Sadly, I won't be able to make this week; there's a lot of events on campus during the evenings. However, I hope it's a productive week for the rest of you, and I'll see you next week for the last meeting! I can't believe the month is half over already! Woot!

Be glad you weren't there-- we were taken over by tangoing accordions and slam-banging pianos and dancing fools. Well, two dancing fools, but lots of endless pleas to fill the "tip bucket." Endless *personal* pleas by the accordion lady... It was great atmosphere for writing a novel about poets in 1930s Parisian cafes and whatnot, but for, er, anything else, it was, er..., uh... interesting.
The coast should be clear next week, if nothing else, to drown out Tom Waits without having to deafen yourself ;-) When you're finding avant-garde black metal soft and soothing, you know you've just experienced true pain.
