Okay, so another nine minutes to do in the Northern Territory, and WA is still behind too... but what the heck. It's on. I'm sitting staring at my scrivener (Mac writing program that's fantastic, btw, and there's an awesome offer on it for NaNo peoples) waiting anxiously to start...

How is everyone going? Ring in here with word counts, success stories and any problems you may have!

I am waiting too :-) even if register 10 words and hit the bed, it was a looong day for me today. Surprised that there aren't any words registered yet - where are the Kiwis? My fancy memory stick that looks like the key (LaCie), proudly christened Mercedes (though on the street I drive a humble Toyota) plugged in (I have more than one computer so my NaNo will live on the stick)... almost there... almost there... almost....

Well, kicked off NaNo in the chatroom and got about 2000 words in an hour before saying I was going to bed. Logged off the chatroom and was saving my work when I was hit with an idea and kept typing. I hit 8204 words before I lost steam.

My fingers hurt now.

Just finished Chapter 1 a few minutes ago, and I'm on 2,959 words. W00t! I might just pull this off.

How are you crazy cats organising your writing? Are you thinking "Do 1,770 (or whatever the minimum per day is) and get out"? "Go for as long as I can before my fingers feel numb and get out"? Me, I've got an outline I'm working from with chapter breaks planned out, so I kept writing until I'd finished the first chapter. I expected to average at about 2,000 words per chapter, so today was a nice little bonus.

And also, gotta say: Carly, you're the crazy kind of awesome (or the awesome kind of crazy) for getting that much done already. I know some professional published authors who'd kill to be able to get a daily word count half that big.

Blurg. First few days of NaNoWriMo and I have to work. I've only got about a thousand words. Maybe I'll get more done this afternoon.

Yay!!!! Day 1! I was really tired by midnight and didn't plan to write anything, but for the sake of tradition, I had to scribble off a few words. Today I get serious. Look out Uxintro!

I watched the time on my watch hit midnight as I stood at a bus stop Sydney. ARGH I thought, I just need to get to the airport and I can start

2.00 am nope airport isn't open, sitting out in the cold, not a good place to start

7.00 am Brisbane, no sleep but propped up in the hostel and got some words churned out.

Now I am using Write or Die to keep me going after a nap. It hasn't been my usual start to nano at all

I stayed up til 1:30 last writing, put in about 1500 words but was so disgusted with a cheap prologue I had done that as soon as I had retold everything from it in a much more readable format I did the unthinkable and deleted it. (Okay, so its still backed up on my computer, just in case I need those 600 words later :P)

Got chapter one done though at 2100 words and seriously regretting having 18 central characters, all of whom need creative personalities. I might push for 2500 or even 3K later on tonight.

Great work everyone *Gives an excited thumbs up to all*

Josiah

Hi all
managed to get 3,834 words done in about 3 hours with a couple of breaks. This is all so new to me - the non editing is HELL but I'm gettting better. Will be getting into it again soon so need a couple of breaks and a good drink to celebrate the start. Hope to get heaps more done and then if I can't get to it tomorrow after work will be able to relax knowing I'm on cue with the daily dues.

An hour into writing (drunk I might add) and I pulled up 900 words. Now at 2300 words while sober. It's not as good as a lot of you, but it's my first real nano and my first attempt at actually writing something so I feel quite happy with it so far. :)

I reckon the first day is the hardest (looking back last year I wrote 582 words the first day, but ended up with an average of 2500 a day so don't fuss it too much).

Editing as you write is only a problem if it stops you doing forwards. I've just redone my last few paragraph three times. Once I move on to the next scenes though, I won't *go back* and edit.

Yoohoo - I've just hit the 5,000 word mark and bugger the coffee. I'm going for a good chat with Johnny Walker and maybe he'll help me with the next 5,000.
I know he'll help with the editing - LOL

I have 557 words. I fully intend to have the 1667, minimum, before I go to bed, one way or another.

The trouble? I'm just not feeling it. Usually I can clearly visualise the scene in my mind, and then write down what I see (and feel). In this case, I can't see anything clearly!

It's going to be a long night... but it will be done!

Managed two chapters - 1900 words. Not too shabby considering I've never had the motivation to sit down to write a story before ... BUT

No idea if its good or not, and too scared to share. Eeek ... not even sure I'm going to let my husband read it. LOL

Lagging behind over here on the first day. Renovating my house though so it's a small miracle that anything got written! I'm just glad to have started. Fantastic word counts you lot. Some of you are power-housing along.

Only have a rough idea of where I'm headed - and NO TITLE yet! I'll feel a whole better when I have one.

Great work Aussie contingency!

Can’t complain about my start. Did about 500 words about 4 this morning while my wife was feeding our new baby. Didn’t get to write again until after tea tonight, but got to 3200. My son (doing YWP) did about the same (spread over the day) even though he is sick.
