Hello fellow Edmonton WriMos. I'm currently going to school at Grant MacEwan University and I have a report assignment for one of my classes that we could do on anything we wanted. I decided that I was going to do mine on Nation Novel Writing Month. A part of my research is going to be some before and after questions about the month. I know that you're all probably very busy working on your word counts but if you have a chance to quickly fill out the following questions that would be great.
1) Why are you doing NaNoWriMo?
2) What are your hopes for NaNoWriMo?
3) How have you planned for this month?
4) Where do you see yourself at the end of the month?
5) If you've done NaNoWriMo before, what has your past experiences been like?
6) If you haven’t done NaNoWriMo before, what are your expectations?

Cool, questions. I have some time :).
1) Why are you doing NaNoWriMo?
The challenge and the comaraderie. Also it's a good way to stick it to the man! After a frustrating year of real life, this is the month where I get to vent and grieve and get support. It's like when Harry Potter was looking forward to going to Hogwart's each year. Also gives a chance to write stories I've been wanting to write for the longest time.
2) What are your hopes for NaNoWriMo?
At the moment, to reach 50K because I'm a bit sick at the moment. Then once I do that to reach 200K :). Also to rejoice and other fellow wrimos reach 50K. Oh, and to raise 500 dollars for Nanowrimo! I'm fundraising :).
3) How have you planned for this month?
No. I mean novel-wise, my novel is already planned. I know where I'm going. I had the beginnings of my novel thought out months ago. I chose one of them last night. I haven't planned food. Like I have no food in my apartment other than some leftover snacks. Though I still have strawberries! My writing area is still filled with papers that don't need to be there.
4) Where do you see yourself at the end of the month?
The quick answer is I don't know. I mean at the moment I don't see myself getting 200K, but that doesn't mean I'm going to try like crazy. I see myself crying at the end of the month. I was going to say either from victory or defeat, but it will be victory since there is always a victory in the journey. I see myself happy at the TGIO, standing there looking at the sensei's and saying "I made it, I actually made it."
5) If you've done NaNoWriMo before, what has your past experiences been like?
Ecstatic, wonderful. My fellow wrimos are some of the best people in the world. From the ML's to the new wrimos. In terms of novel-writing, it's been a sense of accomplishment, of again crossing that bridge or climbing that mountain. It's a great experience and one that you can only have if you actually participate in Nano. I mean who else is going to cheer when you hear "Go Planet!"
6) If you haven’t done NaNoWriMo before, what are your expectations?
I have done Nanowrimo before, but in my first year, my expectations were to get 50K. It wasn't to go to any write-ins or meet fellow wrimos in person because I didn't think they existed. So as you can tell, Nanowrimo has exceeded my expectations :D!

Oo, I like surveys. :)
1) Why are you doing NaNoWriMo?
Because I'm insane. Heh. Seriously though, my first year I did it for the sense of competition. My husband told me he was doing it and I didn't want to be out done (considering I'm an english major). Now I do it because it's exhilarating and the feeling of accomplishment at the end is addicting. It's kinda like getting a tattoo... you're in pain the whole way through, wondering what you were thinking to go through such an ordeal, but the minute it's done you're planning your next one.
2) What are your hopes for NaNoWriMo?
This year my hope is to manage my time effectively and actually finish instead of losing all my writing time doing homework. I'd also like to actually finish my novel.
3) How have you planned for this month?
The only real planning I've done is to organize my schedule so I know exactly what days I'm working on which assignment/essay. Oh, and I bought a bigger battery for my laptop so I have enough power to write at school and on the train without needing an outlet. My novel hasn't been planned at all.
4) Where do you see yourself at the end of the month?
Triumphant. At this point, with so much work and an entire month ahead of me, I feel pretty intimidated and nervous. I have to be honest in saying I have had serious qualms about being able to finish. However, I also know myself and know that I thrive on challenges and through hell or high water I will finish.
5) If you've done NaNoWriMo before, what has your past experiences been like?
My first year it was like pulling teeth to get my story out, and I was so glad to be done. We (my husband and I) didn't go to any events except the TGIO and we didn't participate in chat at all. Our second year we made an effort to be in chat (word wars are what saved my word count, I'm convinced) and more events. It transformed the experience of Nanowrimo for me and made it about much more than just writing. Suddenly it was about camaraderie, too, and that made it infinitely more rewarding. I really feel sorry for those regions who don't have amazing MLs, as I know Edmonton is pretty unique in that respect.

1) Why are you doing NaNoWriMo?
Several reasons come to mind. 1)I'd like to break my bad habit of starting creative-type projects and not finishing them. 2)I'd really like to see this awesome novel idea of mine actually written out. 3)My ulterior motive: We get ridiculous amounts of downtime in November, and I wanted something that could at least make me look somewhat productive and not go crazy from boredome. (Don't look at me that way. I seriously prefer work to slacking off, but when there is no work to be found from yourself or your fellow co-workers what can you do?)
2) What are your hopes for NaNoWriMo?
To finish my novel!
3) How have you planned for this month?
I have my evenings set so I can squeeze it in between my gaming and guitar practise. And whatever I can squeeze in at work.
4) Where do you see yourself at the end of the month?
Dancing around like a crazy person because I actually finished something I started. Bwahaha!
5) If you've done NaNoWriMo before, what has your past experiences been like?
Epic failiure.

I have a bit of free time~!
1) Why are you doing NaNoWriMo?
When you're the owner of over 3000 characters for a single series... you've got some storytelling to do. I find NaNo is the perfect time of year to get that fire lit under your rear to get their stories out.
2) What are your hopes for NaNoWriMo?
To NOT die of exhaustion!
3) How have you planned for this month?
I had the idea kicking around in my head just after last NaNo, and the only thing I was missing was who the bad guy was. I still don't know... but I've got almost everything else sorted out.
4) Where do you see yourself at the end of the month?
In my new house, unpacking my things... because I'll have to wait until after NaNo to do it if I want to finish.
5) If you've done NaNoWriMo before, what has your past experiences been like?
----------I finished by the skin of my teeth!

1) Why are you doing NaNoWriMo?
-Some people jump out of airplanes. I write novels.
Also, I loooove the competition.
2) What are your hopes for NaNoWriMo?
-Last year I wrote a scene that, a year later, stands out in my mind as the most striking thing I have ever written. The build-up to this scene was incredible. A year later I can still say "yikes, writing that really impacted me." I mean, more than the fact that it had to do with a train crash. Which was probably impacting. For other reasons. Uhm. I hope to do it again. I also wanted to write over 1667 words in a 15 minute word war. I've already done that this month. I would also like to pass my last year's word count--111k words--and write at least one other finished manuscript. I can't really foresee getting anything memorable from this story so I hope to finish it and move on to another one.
But, uh... aw, heck, I know I can write a lot of words. I just want one good scene.
3) How have you planned for this month?
-I run a webcomic updating three times a week, so I pencilled all my pages ahead of time and put text on them so I just have to paint them, which varies from 2-10 hours of work per page. I also did a bit of tidy up in my room, which is unfortunately my writing area, and in general tried to cut down my obligations and finish up anything that might take up an extensive amount of time prior to November. In short, I manage my time better than I normally would. >_>
4) Where do you see yourself at the end of the month?
-Completely sane. Uh-huh. Yep. Really! Stop looking at me like that!
Honestly, I'll probably be sad. I always want to keep going in December, and never do. There's two great novels (I like them way better than this year's!) that I'll never finish because of that. =(
Also, due to the way things are rolling, I'm totally going to be PMSing at the end of the month, so that'll just amplify the 'what, no more novelling?!' grief.
5) If you've done NaNoWriMo before, what has your past experiences been like?
-----------Awesome. Productivity is up, spirits are up, insanity and madness is up...! There's something about suffering with thousands of other people worldwide that makes writing so much better during November.

Alright, I'll bite.
1) Why are you doing NaNoWriMo? Well, because it's about time, because I need to get another project done to market, and because I love writing a good challenge :)
2) What are your hopes for NaNoWriMo? To reach 50,000 obviously and to have something worth editing at the end to market.
3) How have you planned for this month? For the novel? the whole story though not written down. Otherwise just life's usually little joys.
4) Where do you see yourself at the end of the month? Hopefully with a novel done
5) If you've done NaNoWriMo before, what has your past experiences been like? This is my first time doing it.
6) If you haven’t done NaNoWriMo before, what are your expectations? Same as above, a 50,000 word novel worth doing something with.

1) Why are you doing NaNoWriMo?
Because although I love writing, I also know from experience that I hardly write anything if I don't have a deadline. Also, it's always great to return to the same community of friends each year.
2) What are your hopes for NaNoWriMo?
I'm not concerned with writing a perfect novel. I just hope that I'll be a better writer at the end than I was at the start.
3) How have you planned for this month?
I haven't - I've made it clear to my friends that I won't be joining them for ski trips and pub crawls this month. That's about it.
4) Where do you see yourself at the end of the month?
At a TGIO, celebrating with an exultant crowd at the magnitude of what we've accomplished.
5) If you've done NaNoWriMo before, what has your past experiences been like?
Great! I'm always finding new ways to challenge myself each year.
6) If you haven’t done NaNoWriMo before, what are your expectations?
My first year, I entered simultaneously with three of my friends. My only expectation that year was that I'd have fun competing against them - I didn't even expect to win. For the record, I did win, and my friends didn't. ; )

Oooo, questionare. :D
1) Why are you doing NaNoWriMo?
Mostly as a self chalenge, knowing that every year I'm writting 50k words, or at least attempting to, is a great feeling. And also to give myself a creative boost. Without Nanowrimo, and the great people we have in the community, my writting hobby probably would have fizzled out years ago.
2) What are your hopes for NaNoWriMo?
To finish and proof my novel, so I can get a copy printed this year.
3) How have you planned for this month?
I haven't. I started school again this year, so all hopes for planning for this month flew out the window.
4) Where do you see yourself at the end of the month?
Triumphant at the TGIO
5) If you've done NaNoWriMo before, what has your past experiences been like?
A great feeling of acomplishment at the end of the month, sleepless nights pounding out words as the end of the month draws nearer, great meet-ups with fellow EdmoWrimos.
