Alright, forgive me, but I wasn't around last year, and wasn't very competitive in previous years when it came to other wrimo's. But is there any real competition between Dekalb and Perth? I've noticed that South Perth have written around 25k and us North Perthies have written near 50k. I know its early days, but they have far less nano-ers than we do...

It based on an averaged wordcount per person who writes anything at all i'm pretty sure.
But it's still just a "friendly" rivalry....
I think.......

Friendly?
Wait, you mean the candy we sent them wasn't supposed to be filled with laxatives?
Ha, ha - if by "competition" you mean there's meant to be a prize or an official result or something then no, it's not an official contest or anything. As stated, it's just a friendly rivalry with a bit of taunting and an unstated effort to help encourage each other to write more words.
Plus the candy. Don't forget the candy. (As an aside, we moved a few months ago and this year we actually had people knocking on the door for halloween. First time in years!)

Hehe this is funny 'cause in my story there is a chick who lives 'south of the river' and another guy who teases her about it (he's a northie) and calls her 'South River' ;)

It is the words per person which count. Plus, don't forget that they're half a day "behind" us, so they didn't start for several hours after we'd been writing!
Really, it's all about fun and fostering some friendly international rivalry.

You may have more writers, but we're very persistent. We'll give you a run for your money. :D
Of course, you do have such a lovely head start. I'm sure you don't have to be worried at all. Why don't you take the day off to go watch the Melbourne Cup. You can always come back and beat us tomorrow. ^.^

You know what? I don't much care for the race either, but i think take some time off to watch it, and still be comfortably ahead. :)
I think I might also go to the beach this weekend.
*ignores the screaming voice in her head that is saying, 'less gloating, more writing'*

You know I actually might watch it this year, just because. But then I do have a laptop complete with a wireless internet connection and I do multitask quite well. So furthering my word count can still happen.
*laughs evilly*
Oh oh and look... my word count.... it's sitting at 12k already at 9:45am on Day 3.

I didn't watch, but I googled, the horse i got in the random office sweepstakes came third.
When I drink my victory beer, purchased with my winnings (only 15 dollars mind you, but am still overly smug), I will think of you Delkab, and it will taste all that much sweeter.

Hehe. I like the way you think. Sadly between kids and such I missed the race. But I didn't place a bet anyway, so it doesn't matter.
