Day Light Savings. What a great idea! I ran to the bathroom. What excuse could I make today? I have used “it was snowing” enough times; it doesn’t even fit with the weather anymore. Anyways, I don't think they believe any excuse I make anyways.

Of course, she loved it. Even I have to admit that it’s much better than the last unicorn song I wrote for her:
High on a mountain
Among the ice and snow
Is a cozy little cave
Where the unicorns grow

Yeah, that's the second unicorn song in my novel thus far. I knew nothing good would come of giving my MC a ukulele.

Hehe. Yay! I think I'm going to try to work in the dares into little songs everyday... who knows, at the end of the month, I may actually put music to some of them.

I know it's not technically the 2nd yet, but the dare was posted, and it fit *perfectly* into what I was writing, so, here it is.

Quote:
I finish painting the comb over and move onto re-polishing the nails of one of the footboards, which is, of course, shaped like a foot. (Have I mentioned how much I love my job?) I grab a jar of what Ruby calls “Kermit the Frog Green”—the standard color for the nails on all of the footboards. I always get “Rainbow Connection” stuck in my head when I see it.

Here goes:

She planned elaborate birthday parties and sewed beautiful Halloween costumes for him. One year, Kermit the frog was the theme for both. He was so obsessed with the role, he even demanded that his parents call him "Kermit." She was relieved when that phase passed.

so this one was hard, especially since Kermit the Frog does not exist in the universe I am writing, so excuse the long descriptions leading up to the challenge at hand.

Quote:

They entered into Kermit’s Hattery and was instantly hit with the smell of sweet Mestobe bauble and another smell that Alexander didn’t recognize, but had a slight twinge of chemicals. At the far wall in the center was a long wooden desk, behind which sat a small old man with half-mooned spectacles perched high on his nose. His nose hung high in the air as he looked down at what he was writing, careful not to use his glasses.

He reminded Alexander much of a frog the way he sat. His posture was slumped, causing his shoulders to appear at level with his ears. He fashioned a double chin of skin that had sunken with age and jiggled as he wrote feverishly with a quill. He grumbled and croaked to himself, not even noticing the potential customer that surveyed within. Yet as soon as Evangeline picked up a hat to try on, his eyes shot up and he rose slowly from his seat.

“How may I help you?” His voice shocked Alexander, for it sounded like he had something caught in his throat. Kermit the frog, Alexander thought suppressing his laughter. His walk did not help his case, for as Kermit the Hat Maker made his way from the desk to Evangeline, he had a limp that made him seem to almost hop.

His eyes were buggy and his lips were wide, growing wider with a grin as he peered through his spectacles at the trio before him.

I'm debating on changing the spelling of his name.... Like Kurmette or Cermitt...

"The sun is shimmering through the soft green of the young leaves on the trees, and Ruth is hugging her Kermit the Frog doll that goes everywhere with her. It’s the last day of Sunday School until the fall, and the older kids are doing a pageant of sorts."

“Daddy, do the Kermit the Frog voice,” Brady said loudly, still trying to shout past his blocked ears. Adam had introduced his son to “The Muppet Show” over the last few months and had been trotting out the Kermit voice to coax a giggle or end a tantrum. It was a tool in the toolbox and a good one to wield. Adam thought about it for a second and transitioned into a near perfect Kermit voice singing a song that had been taught at a recent Storytime at the library.

Here's my Kermit:

Ellie realized that she did not know the woman’s name. She had recolections of high school classmates whose names she had never bothered to learn coming up ot her at the supermarket on a trip home from college. “Ellie it’s been ages. How are you? How’s work going? You’re some sort of doctor right?” Ellie could not think of a quick and easy way to tell the snot nosed kid she remembered only as Kermit the Frog that she was no a doctor and in fact was still in school getting a phd. In engineering. Her mind would freeze, cycle through a few verses of “It’s not easy being green,” and finally decide to f*** it all and tell him, “Yes, some sort of doctor. Right. Where do they keep the frozen dinners in this place?”
She cleared her throat as the woman was walking out the door, “My name is Ellie by the way.”
“Nice to meet you Ellie.” She left. The window of name learning was shut. Ellie just knew that for the next few years she would refer to this woman only as “you there” and “hey you”. No, it is not easy being green.

I managed to work in Sunflowers today. Can't wait to see what tomorrow will bring.

Quote:
My yoga instructor, Sunny, is exactly like the stereotypical yoga instructors on sitcoms. She talks to us about ways we can cleanse our auras and about the discipline of breathing. She shows us her favorite post—her own creation which she calls “Sunflower Pose.” It involves breathing deeply and moving slowly as you “grow towards the sun” a little bit more with each breath, stretching further and further towards the sky. I am not sure if this was the right choice for my credit until she tells us our only assignment will involve trying to emit a more positive energy into the world in and out of class. This is one of those rare occasions when I’m glad I’m not kidding.

the word "ninja's"? as describing something belonging to a ninja? what sort of things do ninjas own besides black clothes, swords, smoke bombs, and throwing stars?

Here it is... my use of ninjas. Since an actual ninja appearing in my teen RomCom, isn't exactly plausible, I had to work it into a song. Sorry this is so long.

Quote:
I take Echo out of her case and play Ruby her song. It’s pretty simple, chord wise, so she can play it, too. It’s just Am, F, G, C— four chords which make up at least a hundred and fifty popular songs.

Welcome home from your / first day of school
You’re in second grade / now, that’s cool
I bet your teacher thinks / you’re real smart
And I bet that you’re the / best at art

‘Cause you’re moving on up in the world
Now, aren’t cha?
And you’re climbing up the ladder like
A sneaky ninja.
You’re walking through the halls like you
Own the place.
If life were the Olympics, you would
Win the race.
It’s gonna be the best year and
You’ll have fun.
‘Cause you’re in second grade now
And two is
Better than one.

Welcome back, kid, / you did good
You did as great as we / knew you would
You’re so smart now, / I can tell
You know I should have / just said “well.”

‘Cause you’re moving on up in the world
Now, aren’t cha?
And you’re climbing up the ladder like
A sneaky ninja.
You’re walking through the halls like you
Own the place.
If life were the Olympics, you would
Win the race.
It’s gonna be the best year and
You’ll have fun.
‘Cause you’re in second grade now
And two is
Better than one.

You made us all proud / and don’t forget
That you’ll be awesome / so don’t you fret
Hit the ground running / on the right track
And come tomorrow / you’ll go back

‘Cause you’re moving on up in the world
Now, aren’t cha?
And you’re climbing up the ladder like

Two is better than… one.

Sadly enough, I actually have chords and a tune for this and everything. I didn't want to get distracted with making up a tune tomorrow like what happened with my last song.

And, hey, here's a video of it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RpPrYpoSw8A

Ten bonus point. Really like it.
