I woke up this morning and had a fight with myself between what to do first - get ready for work, or write?

Is it always like this? Or does the excitement die down after the first week? lol I actually ignored some poor kid on the bus who said hi to me today because I was so wrapped up in writing more of my novel. And now I have the task of getting through the next 8 hours of my work day and trying NOT to distract myself with thoughts of characters and dialogue haha

am facing the exact same dilemma. it didn't help that on the way to work i had another great idea - there was one character who kept on talking to and bothering my character, annoying him and me, cause i knew i was only doing it for word count, then I realised why he wanted to talk to him! and how he all fit in!

I must admit to being very sneaky, and managed to work in about 200 words, but writing it in an email and then sending it to myself. I reckon a couple of those little emails whenever ideas strike can't hurt too much, at least while im not too busy anyway.

i also woke up at 5 with the noble intention of writing, but opted for snooze snooze and more snooze, and an extra long coffee relax before i left, still aiming to get to work early, but was thwarted by the freaking traffic/roadworks by scabs. tomorrow... tomorrow i will writ e before work.

I guess it all comes down to what you can get away with. I start at 5 am and my employers demand that I work very long hours, often doing overtime into the early hours of the morning. They also tend to throw a bit of a tantrum if I don't get that which they require done on time. The pay's pretty terrible, too. Just as well the job has a few good perks or I'd be outta here. I do often get about an hour during the day, and at least another in the evening, when I can write, though. I've some catching up to do today, so hopefully things will go well with the bosses and they'll let me have some time off later on!

Ouch, your job sounds lovely! It's a good thing to hear there are at least some perks though.

Ness, that's a great idea - I think I'll start emailing myself as well. Two pesky characters decided to have a conversation/showdown in 3rd person pov, which hasn't helped since I'm writing in 1st for everything else. But I've saved the scene and I'll take some time tonight to convert it. There are 2 main characters that I've been trying to introduce with no luck so far, but I think I can work both problems in at the same time lol

Bean, your job sounds horrid, like torture! :( I thought I started early - at 6.30am! Kudos to you for taking on NaNo as well as such a burdensome job :)

Dani - really, do you expect me to seriously consider working when I could write? I'm lucky today - I had two site visits on and I made sure and got them done ROOLFAST and now I'm home. Only a few hours early, but I've done my quota for the day and will do more yet!

But I'm a bit different to most - I finish up at my job next Monday. I do not advocate anyone following my currently shoddy work ethic :D

LOL!! I am happy to say that mine aren't... Yet.

I've managed today's quota, but I'm going to take another go at it after work. Which luckily is in just over an hour! :)

I think your shoddy work ethic is commendable, Kat! Everyone's last week should be so productive lol

Well, I work at home, so it makes things easier! Didn't get much done today - both my bosses are sick and it makes them cranky. Really, they can be so childish. :)

See, and REALLY, I should be putting that kind of effort into my novel, should I not?!! :D

I've just had a little word sprint and tapped another 450 out. Yay! Slowly, slowly! We'll get there.

Ooh, can you call my office and suggest that? It would be lovely to get an extra few days . . . LOL

My boss keeps piling the work onto me, with this sly smile on his face. He's lovely, we get along like a house on fire, but I think he's clued in to my not doing a single thing for the last three weeks and he's making it hard for me :)
