Hi Everyone,

When: Friday Night Write-ins (Nov 6-13-20-27)
Time: 8pm until midnight (or later, if wanted)
Where: Denny's in South Keys @2208 Bank St.
Who: Anyone who wants to write, eat good food, and have fun.

This is my first NaNo, and so new to write-ins. I am asking the help of previous participants for ideas to make night interesting (ie Word Wars...)

I'd like if people respond to show interest here, so I can have an approx number of poeple coming.

Thanks.

I can't make it this week, but I'll come for an hour or two on the 13th. (because that date is not ominous in any way)

Besides word wars, other activities I can remember doing at write-ins:

- Put slips of paper, each with a word or phrase on it, into a hat. Each participant draws a slip. Challenge everyone to incorporate the prompt they drew into the scene they're writing now. Afterward, if there aren't too many people, it can be fun to have people briefly describe how they used their prompt.

- Everybody takes an object out of their pockets/purse/pack and passes it to the person to their right. Use the object as a prompt, as in previous game.

- Challenge everyone present to include some element in their novels. (eg. A door to nowhere, a character with a persistent cough)

Hi hi~

I can make it on Friday, provided I can bring two of my friends? They just want to know if they can come lol. No big deal if you think they'll be disruptive, so far they behave nicely in public...

Anywho, I'll try not to get lost on my way there so I also plan to be there on time!

Hi,

Yay Diurnal_Lee, I am glad that you'll be able to make it on Friday the 13th, bwahahaha. (Never know the creepy ideas that might make it in our novel that night)

Yes JO_DN, I don't see a problem with two of your friends coming as long as they realise that most of us will be writing. My only fear for them is that it might get boring. I've been to two write ins and i'd say it's 95% writing, 5% people talking.

As to not getting lost on the way there, if you travel by bus : Take the 97,98 or 99 and get off at South Keys. As soon as you begin walking towards the Walmart, you should see it in the parking lot.

I can make it for a few hours, but it's the night before my sister's wedding so I'll probably need to sleep or something like that.

On the other hand, if I can knock out 500 words after the wedding, that's my "write on a bad day" challenge checked off. ;D

I can probably make most of them actually, though one is on my birthday and therefore possibly undo-able for that reason. Relatives, they expect me to visit on that day, especially this year since I do believe my parents will still be in town. :)

This Friday for sure. Same for the 13th... not the least bit superstitious, not me. ;)

I actually might be able to get the car to drive to south keys... *crosses fingers* i'm all the way in Morrisburg so it's an hour and 20 minute drive for me... so i'll let you know

I'm interested in going to either the 20th or 27th one

Again when the time comes closer I'll find out if I'm working and if I can use the parent's car lol.

I might come once or twice, but not until midnight as I won't be able to get a bus home then and I have to wake up early for a Saturday class.

I'll definitely be there (considering Denny's has been adopted as my new NaNo base of operations). Pretty stoked for the 13th, as the dark energies that abound that day can only help my novel- muahahahaha!

Agreed, we'd have to be close to a place where there are plugs.

Can i just double check that people are going to be there at 8pm? That is, people aren't just turning up for the late shift nearer to midnight?

I have to see how to get there... And I need to find out when the buses to Carleton stop running.
I do want to be there, though. Transportation is just difficult. Especially since I don't know the bus system well at all. 97, 98 or 99... I'll have to find the closest one to take.

Power Outlets : They have power outlets close to some tables. They have had no issues letting us sit next to those at our first write in there. I have two power bars and an extention cord, but if others want to bring some to make sure we have enough I'd very much appreciate it.

Time : I will be there before 8 pm to setup up and assure that we are being placed close to power outlets.

How to locate us: The reservation has been made for the "Writing group" and we will be easy to locate with all our laptops.

Bus to Carleton (assuming you mean Carleton University): The stop right before South Keys is Greenboro, the begining of the O-Train. The last run of the O-Train to Carleton is 11:45 arriving at the university at 11:51. (The O-train leaves every fifteen minutes between 6:30 am and 11:45 pm).

I hope I have covered all questions asked in forum.

Hey Jenny!

That' awesome you're from Morrisburg too!!

Your name sounds too familiar however

anyways I'm thinking about attending the 20th or 27th date.... if we go to both maybe we can work out where one drives there one day and the other drives there the other day

I'll have to see what's going on with work closer to then but to me it sounds like a great idea if you're up for it

I was too shy to come to the pre-NaNo party at the Yang Sheng restaurant.
Actually it's a pretty embarassing story...
Some of you probably saw me and a friend at the restaurant, because we did get there - except once we were there, we didn't go to join the group! We were just two kids (I'm not even 16 for another nine days), and I've got really long blonde hair...
This meet-up is really close to my house, so hopefully I'll be brave enough to join you guys? Hahah!

Rosemarysaurus, you should definitely come. You can just write if you don't feel like chatting with us ancient people :-)

Hello!

I don't suppose anyone is bussing or travelling to Denny's tonight from the west end? Let me know! :)

I'm going to show up if I can figure out a couple things. First off, are we going to meet up inside or outside the restaurant?

As for identifying, I think it's a good idea. Too bad it's not last year, I had really red hair then so I was hard to miss. I'll come up with something though.

My Google Maps says to take Bus one at Greenboro to get there, but would the 97, 98 or 99 be better?
Sorry for all of the questions, I'm terrified of getting lost...
