Is there a resource for words that when read mimic sounds? I realize that sentence made zero sense....
For instance, if your character falls and hits a serving platter, how do you write that out??

Is there a reference for this kind of thing?

To my knowledge, there is no reference of onomatopoetic words. Make your own! It's more fun that way.

For your hypothetical sound, I would probably use "clang." But that may not be the sound you're hearing.

Thanks! I just powered through the part I was working on and tried to approximate the sounds. I'm impressed there is an actual word for what I was describing and that you knew it! It's been far too long since I took any kind of writing/literature class!
