I don't know about you guys but the lowest word count I've seen was ALOT more than I have. Everybody else here seems to be doing awesome and its day two and what do I have? I JUST hit 1K. Other people's word counts are buming me out. Of course I'm happy everybody's doing so well but my Inner Editor just wont die!

Allow me to assist:

/points gun at ComeToNowhere's inner editor

/shoots ComeToNowhere's inner editor.

The quality of your writing is now my fault and you can proceed to write whatever you want, however badly you want, as long as you're filling up that word-count.

Keep at it.

Ive barely juiced me a few thousand...

And then I fell into a pit of no return. ;O;

No, no, no, no!
You gotta look at it differently! When you see someone with a huge-o-mungous word count you gotta be MAD. How DARE these people write so much when you still have so little??? How dare they have such a ginormous word count??? This MUST be rectified!!! You'll show him!!!
...at which point you go off and write a whole bunch of stuff in a fit of righteous anger.

This technique is often referred to as "joining the dark side". Not so good in the long run, but in the short term you're good. Just watch out for Jedi, and enjoy the cookies.

I'm using others people's success to fuel me to keep going. It might be mean to say so but i doubt your putting in the time you need to do this , maybe you should disconnect your internet and concerntrate.

Don't feel bad, some people have jobs, family, school & a whole buncha other things that prevent them from being able to write 25,000 + words in 2-3 days. Seriously, the point of nano is to be a challenge, its NOT easy *for the average person* to write 50,000 words in a month. You've still written 1k more than most people do!!!!

I think my word count is going to make everyone here feel ALOT better!!

Although to my defence I did only start an hour ago due to other commitments.

Yeah, that helped! I managed to forget it was the first november on Sunday so only had an hour before going out once I realised. Then a day in meetings in London (early start-late home) and tonight's work do have scuppered yesterday/today. It's early days though so I'm sure it'll all be fine....

Wow, glad to know I'm not the only one. Just writing a few words is like pulling teeth. my inner editor is really picky because he thinks everything I write needs to relate to my story. I think I'm pressing a key every ten seconds.

I just can't write at the moment, I seem to have NO muse and I know whatever I tried to write would be crap. >_> So don't worry, I think I'm going to stay exactly where I am for at least a few more days, argh!

I'm worried now I won't be able to make it...

Amazingly bummifying.

Normally I do pretty well in the first few days, but this time, not so much. It's really getting me down, actually. My boyfriend joined in and he's nearing 10k, and he has far less time on his hands than I do because he has a full time job! Uck. Dunno what's wrong with me this year.

I feel really bad for being ahead now.

All I have to offer are words of encouragement: you can do it. You may not think you are able to churn out those huge amounts of words, but you are. Before this year's Nano, I had never written more than maybe 4k on one day. If I can get ahead, so can you.

Don't give up, and keep shooting at those inner editors. : D

It bugged me for a while. I saw people with 6,9,10,15 k etc and I had 1.4k. But it helped inspire me to work harder at my writing, hopefully soon I'll be all caught up.

I have less than 700 words right now. I'm essentially 4,000 words behind. So no worries, you're not as bad off as I am.

Yes! Everyone else's word counts are driving me insane! *looks at lousy 500+ words* I know I'm technically supposed to be writing crap right now, but I hate writing crap in the first place.

Yes, yes, yes, yes, YES. I went to join in the 4k shoutout a few hours ago, and the post at the top of that forum?

"90k!"

Wow. Seriously, way to kill off any self-belief and happiness I might've been feeling at that point. I actually think it's obscene to be celebrating word counts like that so early on - it does nothing but demoralise other people.

Gahhhh I'm off for another cigarette. I was full of the joys earlier, plotting to reach 5k (or maybe even 5.5k!) before I went to bed, now I'm just not bothering. Going to bed on 4k is what I'm about tonight!

I was thinking the same thing. Well, not about the cigarettes; I don't smoke, but the word count celebrations...I think if you hit 50K in the first few days, maybe keep it to yourself for a while.

I'm just hoping to hit 2K by midnight, even if that puts me like 5K behind.

All of you can do it. That's right, I'm looking at every single one of you. You may be behind now, but we have an entire month ahead of us. A few days of being behind will not doom you to failure at the end of the month. Take this from someone who has done the last-minute win in the past.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have some inner editors to kill.

Not really. I'm happy with writing 2k a day. Just set a personal goal and don't pay attention to other people's word counts. They don't matter! The only thing that matters is your story.

I know, I don't belong here since I'm at 7k, but I keep seeing people with 15k or 28k and I am just like: "D: WRYYYYY" Also, as far as inner editors go, my ML this year came up with an awesome idea. Buy some clay. Sculpt your editor. Put him in a cardboard box. Duct-tape it. Don't let him out until December. The metal image of locking him away is strangely helpful.

It's no so much that the other word counts burn me out, but they do baffle me. I'm barely scraping by the 1667 words a day. But... sometimes slow and steady still wins the race? The other word counts don't burn me out, but I know writing 10K in one day definitely would. There's no way I would ever be able to force myself back into the computer chair the next day if I tried that.

I guess just hang in there knowing there are a lot of us mere mortals still under 10K. We can still make it, though!

I can't say I am completely bummed out...I mean, I am meeting the daily goal, if just barely. But I am pretty baffled by some of the numbers. How can they write so much? I mean, I feel like most of what I am writing is crap (although I have been pleased with quite a few things I have written)...so how can they have 25k? How many of those people have a coherent story? I'm sure a few of them do as I've seen some pretty awesome ideas...but its hard to believe all those people are writing something that makes sense. But hey, what do I know? I'm a newbie anyway.

I'm not usually bummed when I see a number like 25k...I'm envious for mere moments and then I think to myself, Why don't I have that many words? O.o

But in all honesty, I'm usually breathing a sigh of relief when I make the 1667 daily goal. Word Wars on MSN were responsible for adding another 4000 words to my daily count today, so you might try that.

All in all, don't worry about the pace of others, it will only discourage you. Aim for that 1667 goal and don't worry about it being a masterpiece, because try as we might, nobody can write a masterpiece for a first draft. And if you're fighting the inner perfectionist, remember this is about quantity, not quality.

As long as you keep trying, you'll be fine! :D If you need someone to bounce ideas off of, add me as a writing buddy.

I hope this post was somewhat (coherent) helpful, as it's quite late here and I'm drowsy, lol.

Well...sure, it's a little discouraging to see so many others so far ahead of my own count, but I just keep plodding onwards.
Plus, it kind of sparks a little competitive edge in me.
So don't let it get to you.

I'm behind on my daily word count so everyone bums me out. I just have to keep plodding on. It'll either succeed or fail. *shrug*

I'm more bummed by the fact that I don't have time to write until it's like 3 in the morning and my head is buzzing with all these words I really want to write but I have to force myself to sleep instead =[ I'm getting so far behind. I'm not giving myself a chance here.

I just like to imagine that the people with massive word counts are actually all writing bad Harry Potter slash fanfiction where every single character has a stutter and someone quotes crappy emo/goth lyrics every two paragraphs. Makes me feel much better about myself!
