What can you tell me about it? I have been researching it online, but that mainly tells me size of the town, tourist attractions, etc. I would like to know more about predominant religion, culture, accent, vegetation, climate (particularly in the autumn). What do you see out your window? What part of town do you live in? HIgh school rivalries. Things I would probably only know if I lived there or visited for a long while. It's necessary that my character be from the New England area but not necessarily from Bennington, so any info from anywhere in that region would help me out. Thanks!

I live in Northern VT, near St. Johnsbury, and I could help you more with St. J than Bennington. But, I\'ll give it a shot.

While I don\'t know for sure the predominant religion, I\'ll give it a shot and say it\'s probably Catholic or Christian, like most Vermont towns. The culture I couldn\'t help you with, nor the more specific queries. The vegetation is one of those. Climate is cold in winter, warm but not too too hot in summer, cool in spring and fall. All New England towns are gorgeous in fall. The leaves turn all colors, different hues of red, yellow, orange, and brown, some leaves mix and hold several of these colors. It\'s a great place to be, and Vermont is a major tourist attraction in fall. Go on any scenic route and you\'ll see all sorts of license plates from basically anywhere in the States. If there\'s anything else I could help you with, or any questions, just PM me and I\'d be happy to help.

In order to answer your questions, we must convene with our Moose Overlords (otherwise know as, as my friend's quasi-nephew calls them, "funny rabbits.") We do this from time to time to determine, by popular vote, what the next day's weather shall be. They generally prefer "f-ing freezing", much to our dismay.

There are mountains which are lovely until Stick Season, something we have less of down in Western Mass where I'm from, but up here in Bennington (which I'm vistting for the weekend) it is apparently a much more prominent season. It is also celebrated as the end of Leaf Peeper season. Sometimes we sacrifice the last remaining Leaf Peeper to appease the Moose Overlords and make for a bountiful harvest next year.

The other primary seasons are: Mud Season and Doom Season (otherwise known as DEAR GODS, IT'S ICE!) I'm not sure what they call summer around here, but I think it doesn't have a special name because it doesn't last long enough to matter.

Vegetation consists of maple trees, swampy areas (for the Moose), and various evergreens - pine, spruce, fir. It is currently Stick Season, so we can see much more than we normally would during Mud Season or summer. Out the window, there is a mountain to the right, and to the left there is another mountain. And some cars, since Bennington is one of the few cities in Vermont that actually has more people than Moose.

My friend tells me that there are two sorts of people in town: Woodchucks and Transplants. You are a Transplant if your family hasn't lived here since the 1700's, and you probably have no noticable accent outside of generic "New England", which is something I can't hear, but I assume people from other regions of the country can. Woodchucks apparently sound like woodchucks. I'm not sure exactly what this means. She says it's "twangy and slightly downeaster" which I guess means that it's similar to a Maine accent (where I'm originally from), where you pronounce car "cah" and soda "soder". Also, bear is "baar", as in "baargrease".

Speaking of bars, there's a great Irish pub here downtown called "Carmody's" that serves french fries with corned beef and cheese. They have other slightly more normal food and it is all delicious. We often stop there for dinner before I head home to Northampton. Across the street is another pub called Madison's. Their food and beer (a necessity in New England, especially as it gets closer to Doom season) is also delicious.

The coffee shop has mustard yellow velvet couches. This is important to know.

If you need any other information or have specific questions about New England, feel free to contact me, or in particular about Bennington, look up user name firynze.
