South Shore Week Four winner - the last one

Angela, who quietly lurked in the South Shore depths, wrote a STAGGERING 89,908 words. If I could give her a new car, I would. But she gets a sweatshirt.

Burlington Area TGIO party

Hi all,

It's been kicked around to have a TGIO get together...whether you wrote 10 words or 100,000, it'll be fun to celebrate being done with the month of November!

I was thinking this Wednesday, December 3 (continuing our normal write-in night) would work well. What are you up for? Meeting at Borders to have coffee and talk and NOT write, or maybe meeting down the street a bit at Border Cafe for dinner (it's cheap and delicious Mexican food, for any of you who haven't been there before).

Let me know if anyone is interested!
Thank You from South Shore ML

I know you still have about 40 miinutes left in NaNo, so if you're close to 50K, come back and read this later. :)

I'm so proud of everyone who participated this November. (I think I had the lowest word count. :) But I met a personal writing goal of getting a proposal finished and that's what this was all about -- challenging yourself.)

This is a terrific Region. I'm so glad Christine and her husband organized the Easton write-ins, and I was so sorry I couldn't make it those days....and that I was really late for kickoff. :)

You all inspire me, on the forums and the way you just kept clicking away when I met you. I hoped you all felt inspired by one another because that's the point of the write-ins -- well, that and the good laughs. (Jo, I'm looking at you and the Hannah Montana singing pen).

It's very rewarding to see how many of you crossed the wire. It's not a hard job to be an ML. I tried to take the tack of schedule times and places to meet, encourage a forum community, give some incentive prizes, make new writing friends, and not take anything too seriously. I'm not sure what other MLs do, but I think we did OK. I hope we all stay in touch the rest of the year.

I hope I'll be in a position to do this again next year, and by that time I should be able to order all your newly published books on amazon.

Thanks for this month.
Humbly,
Jen Safrey
Last push at Plymouth Public Library this weekend

We'll be writing and kicking ourselves in the behinds Sat. 12-5 and Sun 12-3. Come whenever, leave whenever.

We usually sit on the 2nd floor, table in the back. Near the poster of Yo-Yo Ma reading "Goodnight, Moon."

Remember, if you're at the write-in on Sunday and you reach 50,000 words RIGHT THERE, you get a just-under-the-wire prize.

South Shore Week 3 Winner is ALSO now a NaNo winner!

Congratulations and kudos and boxes of chocolate and bouquets of flowers to Amanda, our week 3 winner with 47,042 words on Friday to win the Week 3 challenge, and 57K+ words today ALONE to win NaNo!

Woo-hoo!

Awesomely amazing runners-up:

Jo: "38-ish"
Amy: 37,500
Christine: 35,776
Kathy: 35,418
Kelly: 32,203
Brenda: 28,837 (Week 1 winner)
Mo: 26,100

This looks like a TIGHT race for Week 4, and I'll extend the Week 4 contest to Nov. 30. So if you go over 50K, it will still be the highest word count wins. Previous winners not eligible. :) (The prizes are all pretty much the same, so if you already won, you're not missing out on something else cool.)

NOTE FOR THOSE OF YOU NOT REMOTELY CLOSE TO 50K:
We're not out of it yet. We can still catch up. Or consider this: create an alternative goal for yourself. If you've got 2,000 words written, make 5,000 your new NaNo goal by Nov. 30.
More than anything, this month is about challenging yourself.
I wrote just over 11,000 words as of today. And I'm not going to make 50,000. But I wrote far more than I did last month, or the month before, and in one month, I will have written a full proposal to send to an editor. NaNo goal? Fell short. My goal? Close to SUCCESS!
You're all doing so well. I'm a proud ML.
Jen
Merrimack Valley/Lowell Area?

How is there not a thread for this area already? I know there's got to be others out there from this general vicinity, right?

I'm Karina, work in Lowell, live in Dracut. Not entirely sure what my novel will be about yet, but I have a ton of ideas fighting to be "the chosen one" in my head right now.

I'd love to connect with people who'd want to have write-ins in the Downtown Lowell area some nights, or other local places.

Let me know if you're out there and interested in forming some write-ins, etc.
Reminder: Plymouth Public Library write-in Saturday 11/22

From 11-3. Stay the whole time, come and go, whatever.

We've taken to the table in the back near the window on the second floor.

By the way, my longest Chapter 1 in history has been followed up by the longest Chapter 2 in history. Or it just feels like it.

As I mentioned a while back, I will be writing a column on how we are doing for the Easton Journal. So if you would like to give me any input as to how you are all doing, it would be greatly appreciated. Word counts, frustrations and milestones are all great things you could mention. And if you don't want to disclose any information on the boards, feel free to e-mail me at kmello@cnc.com.

Passing on a meaningful challenge

I bring this to you via a post from livejournal - this started as a request from a wrimo to the other wrimos in his region. It has quickly spread across many other regions. It is basically a challenge to write in a character that represents a soldier who gave his life to protect another.

http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/node/3129303

This fit into my story pretty well. Here is an excerpt:

Danielle got excited when she saw her father reading the newspaper at the kitchen table Saturday morning.

“Hi Pumpkin!” he exclaimed.

“Hi Dad,” she said, and they exchanged hugs.

“God, it feels like it’s been so long since I’ve seen you!”

“Don’t worry Dad, I know you’ve been busy.”

Jon was a naval officer at Ventura County Naval Base in Oxnard. It is about a two-hour roundtrip and he worked long hours. When he was home, Danielle only saw him for a short period of time.

“How would you like to have lunch with me today? We can catch up,” Jon offered.

Though Danielle planned on getting ready for her first cheerleading practice, she jumped at the opportunity. While most teenage girls fought to disassociate themselves from their parents, Danielle was more than proud of hers, especially her father.

He once risked his life by entering a burning section of a ship to pull out a fellow officer. The man was alive now because of him. Jon suffered smoke inhalation, damaging his vocal chords. Though he recovered the use of his voice, to this day her father was more susceptible to throat infections. He received a badge for his courage, though he was very modest about what happened. For this reason, Danielle felt like it was never uncool to hang out with her father, a decorated hero.

“I’d love to!” she said giddily. “But only if we can go to Pete’s Place.”

“I wouldn’t have it any other way,” he smiled.
----------

South Shore NaNos....Welcome to the Madhouse

Hi everyone,

I'm Jen and I'm the ML for Massachusetts: Elsewhere: South Shore. I'm in Plymouth, but I'm hoping to make a schedule that will allow places and times for you to all join in at least sometimes......

Can't wait to hear from you, and please suggest good writing places! I was an ML in '06 and we used the Plymouth Public Library, the Borders cafe in Braintree and the Panera in Hingham most frequently.

I have a crapload of research to do this month. I don't know why I ever thought a time travel would be a fun NaNo project. But I told too many people about it and now I have to deliver.

See you soon, scribes.

Jen
