Does anyone have any tips, sort of 'just keep writing'? I've been trying that one for three days, and it's not having much effect so far. At this rate, I might just give up out of sheer apathy.

What zone? The Twilight Zone? :P

If you're bored with what you're writing already, chances are your readers will be too. Write something more interesting, and remember you don't need to cover all the "boring parts".

It's more a sort of generalised apathy with regards all writing: I was deep into a slump before November came around, and really hoping that NaNo would jolt me out of it. Changing plot or characters might help a little, but probably not too much: nothing sounds interesting at the moment.

Dunno if it helps, but when I am in a deep slump I have a few tricks to make my brain work better.

1: Switch fonts. I sometimes even switch to one of the handwriting fonts, that way what I write looks pretty, but I can't actually read it very easily on the screen. This stops me from going back and thinking that what I have written so far is crap.

2: Music. LOUD music. I put on headphones and some music filled with adrenaline as high as I can stand it, then I get a blank paper and just write, trying not to think too much about what it is, just trying to let the music overtake my own thoughts.

Two tricks I use when I get bored:

Imagine the thing / situation my character fears most -- and then have him encounter it.

Imagine the absolute best day my character could have -- and then let him experience it.
(Or, let him get really close to experiencing it, but then snatch it away at the last minute! Ha!)

Have you checked out the NaNo Ate My Soul area? You might find some motivation there. :-)
