Whenever you pass a milestone in your writing, post it here. I don't just mean passing one of the multiples of 10--you found your plot twist, you finally killed off that character you had been trying to do away with since Chapter Three, you managed to make word count AND pass a test all in one day--whatever is a big deal for you, post it here and we'll cheer you on!

Me? I just made it to 5k, hopefully along with a bunch of you. *cheers*

I just hit 6,000 and finally got my MC out of his bloody childhood town and off to the royal city. Next, thieves in the forest!

Weak milestone, but I'll take any motivation I can find. I cruised past 1,000 words on Day One and realized after some sleep I was writing the wrong story. It was dark and brooding like I enjoy, but not the public enjoys. So I spent the next three days putting together the outline for the story I meant to write. Now I've passed the milestone of the first word again and I'm working toward the 1,000 that I've already passed once.

So every once in a while, remember to look over your shoulder and wave me along. I'll see you at the finish line!

Thanks!

I just introduced my villain (finally), as well as introducing my B-plot revolving around rekindling an old flame between two of my characters' parents. I also managed to sneak in a subtle Harry Potter allusion, which I've been trying to do forever, but they were all too blatantly obvious. :D

I’ve got 8,000 words and Prince Brat has appeared! I mean, Prince Charming is here! Or he will be by the time I’m done with him...

I was afraid my novel was going to be kind of flat, but then I read someone else's novel synopsis, and realized that I also needed a serial killer. And that changed my whole concept of what happens when someone gets zombified. That's right, I'm now writing a zombie apocalypse novel with a serial killer in it, and now I'm excited by my book for real! Yippie!

Yes, I know. I'm a sick, sick puppy who is going to be writing about flesh-eating corpses and a sly serial killer who takes advantage of the situation for the next 25+ days. And I couldn't be happier. :)

omegawolf, you just made me laugh out loud, and on a day like today, that's no small feat. I thank you. Is the serial killer a zombie yet?

My milestones are crossing the 10k threshold, and inviting the Travelling Shovel of Death into my novel. It's going to kill an annoying blonde in about half an hours time. Take a look at this thread:
http://www.nanowrimo.org/node/3266137
Can you fit the shovel in your novel?

My serial killer is demanding a much bigger part than I had planned for him, and I'm watching in horrified fascination because he's a great word generator, if disturbing to watch. He upped my novel from a PG-13 to an R rating with one glorious bloody scene. I think I've been watching too much Bones on TV.

Always glad to provide a laugh when it's needed, quantum tea. I haven't even written my serial killer in, though she should have already made an appearance; no big deal really, I'll just turn back the clock, add a chapter in between a couple I've written from my MC's perspective, and I'll be on track.

As for the Traveling Shovel of Death... seems too easy for a story like mine. Zombie fighting weapons that don't go BOOM tend toward the garden tool variety. Still, I can't see why the bad guys couldn't be armed occasionally... hmm, weapon wielding zombies, not a bad idea!

After taking a peek at your author's page, I just realized that it was your synopsis that inspired me. Thank you! If you ever get your book to a publishable stage, it looks like something I'd buy. Keep up the good work!

I recently introduced my second-most-important character. I'm also starting to feel the emotions of my characters, which is very important when it comes to my writing.

Oh, and I've recently realized that if I somehow reverse-aged down to fourteen years old, I would totally steal the aforementioned character from my main character/narrator. Too bad he isn't real.

*takes a deep breath*

The milestone is an apology - I truly embraced by "R" rating with what I wrote this morning - and therein lies the apology. I am sorry if the material - what the character embraced and experienced - is a trigger for folk who've struggled with depression and self-harm.

I'm at 13,000+ words and for the first time I am starting to like the story. Sure it's very very rough, but it's not the steaming pile I originally thought as I was first writing it. So yay! :)

Also, I finally completed a rough outline for the rest of my plot. Having come up with my storyline October 31, I was worried that the whole thing would not come together in time.

I still have a long way to go, of course, but today? Today I'm feeling pretty good about it all.

18,000 words and we’re finally getting to the good parts. We’ve had our first close call about the fairy gift and my MC is having funny feelings about the Not So Charming Prince.

I wanted to get to 25,000 words my first week and I did. Now if only I was feeling better I could make my goal of reaching 50,000 this week or early next week.

*slog, slog*

I hit 7000 words. woohoo.

My company is all gone, and Wrockstock is over, so now I have very little excuse for not writing. Going to a write-in tomorrow, which should help get me back into the spirit of the thing. I hope.

8 thousand.

At this point, every thousand is a reason to celebrate. I said at the end of November that I'd cut myself off of facebook for a whole day for every 1000 words I was short of the 50K goal. It's looking pretty scary right now. Just bought myself back another day, though.

My MC is confused and frustrated. I think I am too.

Well, my milestone just went and reversed itself!

I was just 200+ words short of 20,000 and today I went to pull up my story and I can't find the most current version. I date it each time I add more and the only version I can find does NOT include the changes (which were major!) or additions I did last night.)

So, instead of breaking 20K today, I'm rewriting what I did yesterday. :-(

I'm bummed.

ermm... i just wrote my first nude scene.

haven't gotten around to sex or introduced the main villain yet, but, hey, i've got 2 or 3 exposed willies, and a pair of breasts.

maybe a butt shot next to complete the foreplay...

Wow. Congratulations I'd say. I've yet to write nude scene or sex into my novel. Maybe if I get stuck, I'll fumble around with that. If nothing else I'm sure I can blow a thousand words.

Hope yours turns out well.

My driving motivation is rewarding myself with an iPod Touch. Alternately just finishing will be a huge reward. I'm so pumped that I've gotten to 30,000 words for the first time and this is my third year.

I'd be suffering though if I did what you were doing. I don't have that sort of self discipline for time waster games. Have to squeeze in Restaurant City every day and Mafia Wars. :)

Awesome. You'll be to the finish line before too long I wager.

Autobiographical huh? Can't wait to read and get some insight into you.

My work is not even close to biographical. Hopefully that makes it more interesting not less. Ha.

Blargh. I am pretty behind right now. BUT I finally got to the big conflict that drives the rest of the story. My MC and his friend are planning how they can fix things without anyone finding out. We'll see how well their plans pan out!

I reached 50K!!!! 50,008 to be exact. I stopped in the middle of a scene when I saw that and headed home from The Dubliner. Now I'll definitely have a place to start tomorrow without being stuck right off the bat. So I've reached the official goal, and am halfway to my personal goal, 1 day ahead. Yay me!!! And, I figured out who I'm going to kill with the Traveling Shovel of Death, and it will add some nice conflict and plot twist to my novel. It was a great day!!

I've reached 25K and figured out that I can write much better if I outline the scene before I write it. My last two days of writing have been much more enjoyable than my two previous.

Yay for writing being fun again!

I do the same thing Spygurl. I have a small notebook and I write a chapter at a time in that and then I type it into word, editing it as I go. I find it easier to piece together that way.

*gasp, cough, wheeze*

I just hauled myself over the 31k line. That last 10k was far harder than it needed to be. All my characters are devious weasels with plot twists and back story I wasn't expecting and they're not following the plot! I hope they have a decent story to tell if I just follow them for a while.
