Hey guys. I need you to list off all the famous magical creatures you can come up with. I want faries and giants and goblins and witches. I want you to get them from books and movies and fariy tales and folklore and even perhaps music. If you could tell me where they are from too, that would really help me.

I really appreciate this guys!

Ready, set, GO!

Thanks for all your help, but I am looking for specific famous magical creatures. Some examples are Tinkerbell, Glinda the Good witch and Thumbelina. Things like that.

Gandalf the Grey/White
Saruman
Bilbo Baggins
Frodo Baggins
Legolas and all the rest of the LOTR folk.
Don't forget the Ents though Treebeard rules.
Falcor the Flying Luck Dragon from The Never Ending Story.
Willow, from Willow
Also those two Brownies from Willow, I forget their names.
Hoggle from Labyrinth
Ludo form Labyrinth
The BFG and the other giants -
* The Fleshlumpeater
* The Bonecruncher
* The Manhugger
* The Childchewer
* The Meatdripper
* The Gizzardgulper
* The Maidmasher
* The Bloodbottler
* The Butcher Boy
Mildred Hubble from The Worst Witch
Nanny McPhee
The Beldam in Coraline (aka The Other Mother)
The Golden Goose (the one that people stick to if they try to pinch it, from Grimm's Fairy Tales)
The Horse of Many Colours (Wizard of Oz)
Will O' The Wisp (from the cartoon Will O' the Wisp)
Mavis Cruet the Fat Fairy (from WOTW too)
Evil Edna (The evil witch shaped like a TV from WotW)
Meg from Meg and Mog
The unicorn in The Last Unicorn
The Gelfs in The Dark Crystal
Tom Bombadill, appeared in LotR, I think, may have been the Hobbit, but also had a nice long poem written about him.
Draco ? I think that's what the dragon in Dragonheart
The Genie from Aladdin
Merlin
The Gentleman with thistle-down hair from Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell.
Door, Hunter, The Angel Islington, The Black Friars, Serpentine, Lamia and the rest from Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere.
Jack Skellington - The Nightmare before Christmas.
Does Beetlejuice count? I know he's technically a ghost but...
If Beetlejuice counts then so does Emily - The Corpse Bride
The Loch Ness Monster
The Barguest/Black Shuck/Padfoot
Oooh, The Aufwaders from the Whitby trilogy by Robin Jarvis, I love them!
Which reminds me - The Moomins
Banshee

That's all I can come up with off the top of my head without listing every character in LotR and The Hobbit as well as the usual Harry Potter crowd. Not sure how you're using this but it's always worth noting that Bilbo Baggins has also had a song sung about him by none other than Leonard Nimoy (Mr. Spok from Star Trek). It's embarrassing to say the least.

Hope that's the sort ofthing you were looking for,.

I just realised that I have a book of the Goblins of The Labyrinth (the film), though the film is famous the individual goblins aren't since they are only really named in this book (Goblins of the Labyrinth by Brian Froud and Terry Gilliam) I can post up the names if you want though.

I recently read a TV script in an anthology that involved some Greek mythology, so that's fresh in my mind:
Medusa (snake-hair lady)
Pan
Prometheus
Pandora
Eros (Cupid)
Psyche (his wife)
Persephone (bride of Hades/daughter of Demeter)
Heracles (Hercules is Roman, random FYI)
Perseus (slayed Medusa)
Pegasus
The Minotaur
The major Greek gods:

Zeus
Athena
Hera
Poseidon
Hades
Aphrodite
Mars (can't remember the Greek)
Artemis
Apollo
Hermes
Demeter

Sorry for not offering conventional creatures, I just happen to know Greek mythology and it's fresh in my mind.

You really can't go wrong with mythological monsters and creatures. They're usually pretty easy to identify. Medusa and her two sister gorgons, the Minotaur, Pegasus, Cerberus, chimeras, the Kraken, centaurs, the Harpies, the Sirens, Charbydis.
