So here's my daily contribution. This is a flashback for Itachi.
He was four years old, and on his first mission with Father and Shisui. [...]
They took him in, as his team had known they would. It was useful, being only four. Fearful of being discovered during interrogation he cried whenever someone questioned him and being only four this was not remarked on. After the third time this happened a kunchoni snapped something at his interrogator and scooped him up. She had iron gray hair, her face and arms were crisscrossed with scars, and she had the kindest blue eyes he had ever seen. She fussed over him like a mother, washing him and feeding him, and mending his clothes. She promised to help him find his family, and also promised to adopt him if they couldn't be found.
On the fifth day, after he had judged their guard had lowered slightly, he stole a pair of pliers and that night he pulled out one of his molars. It hurt much more than he expected, but he didn't make a sound. Instead he broke it open and extracted what appeared to be a grain of rice. Sneaking into the kitchen the next day under the pretext of stealing a snack he dropped it into the rice that had been set aside for that night's dinner before placing a paper fan in the window of the kind woman's room.
That night he picked at his food and complained of a stomachache and went to bed early. She tucked him in and kissed his forehead. After the sedative did its work he let his father and cousin in. They handed him a kunai and let him help.
She was still awake, struggling against the effects of the drug, when he killed her.
