Hey everyone - I'm a Mainah by birth, from Machias originally. Moved to Texas in 2003 for college and have been there ever since.

As a result, I haven't been to a Pirates game in forever and ever, and (sorry to admit) have kind of stopped keeping track of them :(

My story takes place outside of Portland, and the family are Pirates fans. So...

-- Who's the "bandwagon" star these days, the one who everyone in Portland knows his name, whether they're really fans or not? The one every seven year old hockey fan looks up to and wants to be like?

-- I assume there are still teams for young kids up there, like the seven year old... anyone know anything about the program for kids? Where they practice, what the program or teams are called, etc?

-- Are there opportunities for kids to meet the players at the game, even as a result of a contest win? Down here, for instance, one kid is the "stick kid" and gets to meet a player before the game. Another kid gets to stand with the team on the ice during the national anthem. During the intermissions, one kid is chosen to ride on the zamboni. Anything like that? I suppose if not I could just make it up... this is supposed to be fiction after all :P

Thanks!

I'm new to the area, so I don't know much about the players or kids' programs, but today the Pirates had a thing where anyone who brought their skates to the game could skate on the ice with a few of the players after the game. Very cool! I wasn't at the game so I don't know any other details, but I hope this helps a bit!

Well... I don't really know the names of many of the players, so I can't help you there...I guess you could check their website or something for that
I haven't been to a game in a while, but I think they do have a thing where a kid can go out on the ice and try to score to win a prize or something. So that would be a possibility...
And there's a program that I know about called LIttle Scots... I'm not sure if it's for seven years old, but I guess it could be :). They practice at the rink at USM in Gorham, I think.
Sorry I don't know tons, but I hope this helps :)
