Hello, Lushguins! This thread is cross-posted. That means it will appear in both the Austin and Houston forums simultaneously. Your replies to this thread will appear automagically in both the Austin and Houston regional lounges.
---------------------

Hiya! It's flickguy here, via lazym. I asked her to post this for me so it could be cross-posted to Houston.

My fellow Lushguins, as of Midnight on the morning of November 1, WE ARE AT WAR! A word count war, that is. Fighting to write the most words on average over our very worthy opponents in Maryland.

Here is the promised Trash Talk Thread, in which we will goad them into wasting precious hours bad-mouthing us while we ignore the bad-mouthing and write write write.

It's a brilliant strategy, no?

What follows is an excerpt from the Official Rules to remind us not to go overboard in our goading and bad-mouthing:

---------------------
Trash-talkin’

  • Each team will have a clearly labeled “trash talk” thread. The Lushguins trash talk thread will be in the Austin Lounge. Trash talk is to be posted ONLY to the trash talk thread and should remain in good fun and within the bounds of good sportspersonship.

Our God-like powers

  • Challenge Coordinators decide what “good sportspersonship” means.
  • We reserve the right to remove folks from the competition for any violation of the rules and guidelines listed above.
  • We are the final authority in any dispute or question about the rules.

Remember It’s All in Fun

  • In the heat of competition, we sometimes forget it’s just a game. If you have a concern or question about anything regarding the competition, please contact your challenge coordinator before you post.

I hope the Marylanders aren't too crabby about losing to us.

Oooh, crab! Very tasty, especially with drawn butter.

Question: if a Crab becomes a Lushguin, and he then eats little Crabs for breakfast in a word war, does that make him a cannibal or enlightened?

Just wondering...

Don't forget to visit The Maryland Trash Talk Thread and toss a few good-natured taunts in their direction.

50,000 words is easy.
50,000 words that make sense? Much harder.

You know, I really think there's no way the crabs can pile up the b.s. as fast as we can. And remember, every word of b.s. counts! We shall bury them!

Au contraire, my feathery nemesis! Each challenge participant in the fine state of Maryland has been issued hip waders so we can slog through the BS. This is not as helpful as you might think, because our legs are pretty short.

But I digress. In the battle of the BS, the crabs cannot lose. After all, we breathe in the fine, bloviation-filled air from our nation's capital every single day. That gives us a BS advantage that those of you who live far from the political center of the country just can't match.

But you're welcome to try, of course.

All that hot air just floats away. We, on the other hand, really know BS, as we have the B's!

Mmmm, Crabcakes!

I'm actually a vegetarian, and usually practice non-violence, but I think I'll make an exception for this very special brand of crabs.

This is a tough one. After years of adjusting to North American life, having to curb my sarcastic wit and self, I'll need to watch some good, nasty Brit coms for me to get that revved up again. So all I can muster up to say is, sans flowery language, let's serve ourselves some crabby patties and some Shiner Bock. Ok don't drink beer but if I did, I would. I'm Dutch, I adjust to the culture. (and psst crabbies, things are really big here in TX..Holy S**T!)

How do I get one of those cute penguins in a martini glass in my letters? Can I get one for a t shirt? And for matching socks?

And yes, mustabeen crazy, you do have the bs advantage living close to Washington, but dear Lord, we live in Austin. You know, the place that spawned the last president and has always been rife with some of the weirdest politics and maneuvering and yes deep, dark cattle caca in the world!

We are equipped! We are ready! We are little drunk penguins with laptops! Fear us, little crustaceans! Scuttle away and do not fall into our martini glasses or we will slurp you up!

So, because I'm nothing better to do at oh-dark-thirty, I'm giving us all a bump to start writing.

Within your next chapter: have a character trip over his or her own feet or a badly-tied shoelace. Good for 500 words as everyone around points and laughs.

The Lushguin icon is here: http://www.sufferinstudios.com/nano/

Silver designed Foster-in-a-glass, so you'd need to talk with her about other uses. You'd definitely need a better quality image if you're going to enlarge and use him elsewhere.

Wow, we even have more words in our TRASH talking thread.

A good omen. For us creative crabby types. Our novels practically write themselves.

Off to write now - with my talented claws ;-)

We are too busy working on our novels to write here. You just *think* we are posting our actual word counts. We are just lulling you into a false sense of security. When we post the real numbers at the end of the month, then you will see some trash talking and dancing and sharing of crab recipes.

Oh, wait...that really is my word count. Nevermind

Green Bars
Smilin' at me
Nothing but Green Bars
Do I see...

Lushguins
Singin' a song
Lushguins are winners
All day long.

Never saw the sun
Shinin' so bright
Never saw wordcounts
Goin' so right.

Noticin' the days
Hurryin' by
When you're NaNoing
My how they fly.

Blue Bars
All of them gone
Nothing but Green Bars
From Now ON!!!!!

(parody of Blue Skies, for those of you crabs who may not have enough life to know Irving Berlin's music...)

I just got the fifteenth NaNoMail accusing me of being an AI. New record...last year I only got 14.

Of course, last year, I also got 7 NaNoMails that accused me of making up my wordcount.

Anyway...

I just glanced across the great Word War page at the NaNoHelper webite and the Lushguins have retaken their rightful spot! As of about two minutes ago, the Texas powerhouse holds a nearly 2000 word advantage (on average) over the Crabs!

So write on, fellow Lushguins! It is time to assert our flippered dominance!
