Would someone who wears glasses all the time take them off to pull a tee shirt over his head?

I have a character who has lousy vision. He can only focus clearly for about 6 feet, so he wears glasses everywhere except the shower or bed.
He's in a locker room scene, and I need to know this, but I didn't grow up wearing glasses.
Thanks.

Nope, I sure wouldn't. Mine stay on from morning til night unless I'm in water. My son, however, takes his off if the shirt he's putting on ha a somewhat tight collar (but then he hasn't been wearing glasses very long).

I wouldn't ... maybe some people do, but I never take my glasses off except for when I go to bed. And I clean them using the end of my shirt, even though they say it'll scratch them. It never has.

I /have/ to take off my glasses when I put on/take off a shirt, or anything that goes over my head, because if I don't it squishes them painfully into my face, and maybe smudges them. If the shirt is bigger, though, I can get away with it if I'm careful. If I'm not careful they might slip off, or get jostled. At the very least there's the possibility of smudging them on your face, and there is nothing worse than having a big streak of face oil on your glasses. It's a little hard to clean off. And, yes, I do use the end of my shirt for that. What scratches them are paper-based products, like tissues or toilet paper. Cloth doesn't scratch them.

It depends on how big the collar of the shirt is. If it's sort of tight, I'll take off my glasses so I don't knock them off my face.

I'm also likely to take my glasses off when changing a shirt, but not always. The most annoying thing is if they get pressed into my face and rub against my eyebrows and eyelids, creating big smudges. I will also usually clean them using the end of a t-shirt. Paper products are advised against the most, and I don't use them mainly because they leave a linty residue.

I always take mine off whenever I put on or take off a shirt, dress, or anything going over my head.

not unless it's a very tight shirt, although you do have to be more carefull about it when your wearing glasses.

I usually take mine off when putting on a shirt. Another thing about glasses (don't know if this'll be helpful) is that they have a tendency to slip down one's nose all the freaking time and pushing them back up is a reflex, even when you're not wearing them (I've poked myself in the nose many times, thanks to that).

My parents say I have to take my glasses off when I put on or take off any shirt. I don't.

Haha, severannoyance, it's so true! I'm constantly having to push up my glasses and even when I'm not wearing them, I think they need to be pushed up and try and then fail, and then have to put them on so I get the feeling of them being high up on my nose.

As for the OP question, I never take off my glasses when changing shirts unless it's a really tight turtle neck where it won't fit over with my glasses on my face. I also only take off them when I sleep and when I'm in water.

I generally do because mine would probably fall off and I wouldn't want them to get scratched. I would probably put them on something (perhaps the inside of a locker?) if a friend wasn't there to hold them (which one probably wouldn't be if I was putting a t-shirt on).

If the shirt is tight enough, I will. But if I can put on the shirt and hold the collar away from the glasses I'll do that. Easier than putting them down, putting the shirt on, then putting the glasses back on again.

Usually, if the collar is tight, I'll hold the glasses in one hand while the collar is going over my head. That way I won't accidentally sit on them. Then, as soon as the collar is past my head, I put them back on, then straighten the shirt. It's automatic.

I usually know which shirts are tight and which aren't, so different shirts would have a different routine. Blue Nano t-shirt, glasses off. Red store shirt, glasses on. If I'm in a hurry, I'll pick a shirt where I can keep my glasses on.

Several times I have bent or broken the hinge to the temple piece because it was a tight fit and the squeeze bent the glasses. Going around with taped glasses because you wrecked them ten minutes before you're due to leave for work is the pits.

Also, the worse the eyesight, the more careful you're likely to be about your glasses.

I wear mine except for shower and bed. I notice that people who only wear them for occaisional reading are less picky about how they deal with their glasses. They are more likely to put them on a table and leave them.

Hope this helps.

Your character has better vision than I do.

And I wouldn't take my glasses off to remove a t-shirt. All my t-shirts have wide enough collars that I don't have to.

I probably would. Or maybe not. But I hate getting my glasses caught on a sweater or something. Yeah, I'd take them off. But it's a PITA to do so.

I'm a big dork, by the way. Cooler people who wear glasses may have some other technique.

I used to always take my glasses off, especially when putting a hoodie on. A lot of times, if I pulled a shirt on while wearing my glasses, the part by my nose would press into my skin, and it would hurt a lot. Plus, I'd have to worry about my glasses breaking so one side was lower than the other, or something that would make me look like a complete slob when I went outside of my house. If the shirt was large enough, I would usually pull it on without taking my glasses off, but I would go slow and take it carefully. Glasses are really annoying. I used to break mine all the time because I'm naturally clumbsy, and I'm run into a door and then they'd fly off and end up broken. I'm pretty glad I switched to contacts. It still amazes me how easy it is to put clothes on now :)

I can't see even six feet and wear glasses all the time except for showering, swimming and in bed. I never take them off to put a shirt over my head.

Another vote for "depends on the shirt". Though sometimes I'll forget I'm wearing my glasses and put a shirt with a tight collar on or off without taking off the glasses, and end up pressing them against my eyes and smudging them. Very annoying (but then I'll at least be wearing a fresh shirt to clean them on).
I usually put my glasses into my locker while changing. Sometimes (when the locker was too full) on the nearby windowsill.

I have to say that I don't always take my glasses off when taking a top on or off. But then I nearly always knock them off my face.

The other thing I do is put them on my head and forget they are there. Which is kinda stupid I know. But I know a few people that do that.

I wear them when I put on t-shirts, but I think it'd be personal preference.

I never take my glasses off, except for when I'm sleeping or in the shower. I've never had an issue with getting face smudges on them, or having them jut into my face, etc. My vision is almost perfect, but I still refuse to take them off at any point.

i never do. every now and then, if the collar is tight, they will catch and dig into my face a tiny bit, but nerver enough to make it worth the effort of taking them off.

without my glasses i am legally blind and can see approximately 5 centimeters in front of my face clearly. As a result i've been wearing glasses since i was 6. I only take them off when i'm bathing/swimming, on a rollercoaster, or asleep. they stay on when i'm getting dressed. I'm 26 and wear trifocles XD

Well, I'm clumsy and have been known to knock my glasses off my face (which is impressive considering how many years I've worn them), so I do take them off when I put on a shirt with a tight collar (t-shirt, turtle-neck, etc.). It minimizes the probability of them hitting my scuffed up hardwood floors. Also, your character's vision owns mine - I'm verging on legally blind. Thank God for high-index lenses, or my glasses would be an inch thick. Polycarbonate is my friend.

I have horrible vision so I rarely take my glasses off. I wear them in the shower (so I can tell the difference between shampoo and conditioner) and I wear them swimming. I also usually wear them when I go to sleep, so that when I wake up they're right there and I'm not freaking out. I can't imagine taking off my glasses just for a t-shirt =)

*Without glasses I can't walk unless the ground is perfectly smooth and I can't read unless the book has large font and is within an inch of my good eye. Also, that "How many fingers am I hold up?" question. Yeah, I can't answer that confidently unless the fingers are within two feet of my face and there's good lighting.

I always take them off because if I don't my glasses cut my face. It has happened a total of three times. Not a lot of fun.

Wow. A lot of people wear them while getting dressed. I don't. Actually, I take them off before bed and leave them on my desk in the living room. I have a special little tray for them--it says, "Where are my blooming glasses?" If I left them on my dresser, I'd have a hard time finding them! So, my glasses are off when I change clothes. I also take them off to eat (they annoy me then for some reason), to sleep and to blow my nose. Sometimes I have to take them off to read, even though I wear bifocals.

No, they stay on my face when I do that UNLESS: the shirt's neck is very small. A few weeks ago I had to put on a dress with a neck I could barely get my head through it. Of course I took my glasses off then. But for a T-shirt? No. I even wear them to bathe. (Stand close enough to the water in the shower and they fog up, then it goes away for good. Stand further off and it'll take longer and not go away. And as a last resort, either wipe them with your fingers-- index and middle, do like windshield wipers-- or run then under the water.)

Of course, when I first wake up, I might actually forget to put them on to use the restroom, then return to my room and put them on.

Mostly I don't even think about them. So of course I don't take them off. But a very fastidious character would NEVER do as I do. If your character's fastidious, well... it could damage them to pull on a shirt over them, or they can fall off. And you're not SUPPOSED to wear them to bathe (what if a screw falls out? Which has never happened to me in the bath, but a lens has fallen out and I didn't notice until I realized suddenly that my vision was wonky).

Maybe it depends more on how long you've been wearing glasses, rather than how bad your eyes are?

My vision is so bad that I can only see clearly 4cm in front of my eyes. Everything after that is blurry. I've had glasses since I was 8 years old (that's 25 years...)

I hate not being able to see - especially in unfamiliar places. When I go swimming, I'll leave my glasses on and just not put my head under the water. If I'm in a strange shower/bath, I'll leave my glasses on. I take them off at home to have a shower, and when I go to sleep. Sometimes I'll wander out to get a drink in the middle of the night without glasses - but only when I'm at home and I can be sure that I know where everything is.

One of my recurring nightmares (which I usually have when I'm feeling anxious about something) is that I lose/break my glasses, and I find myself in an unfamiliar place without being able to see. It's terrifying.

So, long answer short, if I was at home and I had a shirt with a very tight neck, then I *might* take my glasses off in order to make it easier. But in a public locker room? I'd rather hurt myself or smudge my glasses than be in an unfamiliar place without my glasses.
