So at our meet-up yesterday some of us decided to make word count goals to get to by the end of the weekend. Post your (realistic) goals here too, and we'll see if we can make them!

Moderately realistic goals are a good thing too. *grin*

As a point of reference:
If you're aiming for 50,000 words - you should be around 13,334 words
If you're aiming for 75,000 words - you should be around 20,000 words
If you're aiming for 100,000 words - you should be around 26,667 words

BUT the important thing is to make your goals realistic for today. I'm aiming for 100,000 words this month, and yes, I'm currently at 369 words - there is NO WAY I'm going to aim for 26,000 words today. Or even 20,000. Because that's just not realistic.

(I'm aiming for 12,000 words by midnight, which is still a little ambitious since I didn't fit any writing in yesterday and haven't written anything yet today at nearly 11am - BUT hope waxes eternal! Springs eternal? Something like that. :-)

To start things off, I thought I'd list the goals we decided on yesterday at the Palmy meet-up.

wombleomlette was at 42,000 words and decided to aim for 50,000 by the end of SATURDAY (and I just checked: she's now at 50,175 words. Go womble!!). She's aiming for 75,000 words this month.

nevermind is aiming for 15,000 words by the end of Sunday.

Walkiry decided to go for 15,000 words by the end of Sunday.

A brickwall is aiming for 11,000 words by the end of Sunday.

Rosemary (whose username I can't find! I'm sorry!) is aiming for 13,000 words by the end of Sunday.

...and now it really is nearly 11am and I still haven't written any more words. I'm off!

by the end of today? I'd like to be at 10k, which is sadly realistic for me on a Sunday. I have some catching up to do. I did want to do 75k this year, but a death in the family meant I started late AGAIN! And now I have the procrastination bug I had last year!

I wanted to break 20k yesterday, but couldn't sum up the energy to carry on past 18k. I'm hoping the write-in today will help shake me up and get me back on track.

I'm looking after my little brother tonight, so aside from the meeting, I won't be doing any writing ... And tomorrow I have to study all day. So getting to 22k today would be amazing.

I hope to be at 20k (I have a bet with my sister). Does that mean I could get to 75,000 words by the 30th if I do this? O.O

I'm hoping to make 16,000 by the end of today. I'm trying to keep my output's quality level up to something that's actually fixable, rather than completely unsalvageable, so I've set myself what I see as a practical target (2000 words per day) which means that, barring unforeseen events such as completely running out of story, I should hit the target with a couple of days to spare . Of course, if I get hit by any actual inspiration and find a few more hundred words of story, I'll type them out while I've got the chance to (no sense in letting good words go to waste, after all...)

----------

2006 - Title: "Awakenings"; Genre: Horror; Words: 50,000+.
2007 - Didn't take part.
2008 - Title: "From The City Of Demons". Genre: Fantasy. Words: 50,000+.
2009 - Title "Thief". Genre: Steampunk. Words: Not nearly enough.

GO SUPERVIXEN!! That's awesome! :-) *glares at own wordcount* *glares at stupid forums and stupid Internet*

Maybe compromise and go for an extra thousand? ;-)

Also, just noticed nevermind has reached her goal as well, now! GO NEVERMIND! :-)

*gets back to writing staring blankly at screen*

I'd love to get to 40k today (I'm just over 35k at the moment, after a successful write-in in Albany) but I'm not sure how likely that is. so I'm aiming for 37k and will be ecstatic if I get 38k. Which means, if I get 39 I'll be over the moon, and 40? I hope that doesn't mean a late night.

Congratulations to everyone who's met their goals!

Ahh, that sounds like a nice idea for the afternoon. I did that heaps last summer, and I didn't get sunburnt but I did get some mean headaches!

supervixen - Want to do a word war after your suntime reading? :-) I am all about the word wars today... we could do a start-at-x-time and race to write another 1000 words and post here when we win!

Or not, if you want. :-) I know a lot of people don't like word wars! But if you're keen, I'm keen. :-)

10,000 at the time of writing. Now to write the rest of the afternoon away (as opposed to off). :)

I'm alternating writing with Rock Band, works marvelously!

Currently 5pm and I'm aiming for 20k by the end of today. It's totally and utterly unrealistic xD

Absolutely!!! I'm still procrastinating. Let's do it. How about 6pm? Is that too early?

And I'm with you on the headaches, not too much sunburn yet thankfully, since I am a very pasty Irish girl and burn when I even think about the sun! Yesterday's sun venture definitely ended in the headache from hell.

That's what I'm going for too -- it's going to happen, seriously *nods*

Also -- can I join the word war people? I need some sort of motivating something.

I'm aiming to be 5k into my new novel so that's...56k in total. Yeah, I'm in a bit of a weekend slump so tomorrow I will start pounding out the words again.

Congrats to those who have already met their goals!

I decided to take it easy today and just get to 53,333 because that's what I'll need if I decide I have enough plot to get to 200k XD I've spent most of the day working on my outline, which sort of came to pieces somewhere along the line *cough*

Anyway, good luck you guys! NaNoMail me if you want to word war or something, or look me up on MSN (my details are on the MSN thread) - I'm pretty much always online and I always love to chat with fellow NaNoers.

Didn't quite make my goal, but I'm so tired that I suspect trying to pump out the extra 500 words would just result in me sleeping on my laptop.

godsdottir: this is me lulling you into a false sense of security, see. Tomorrow I will write like the wind, or like something else speedy, and totally overtake your word count.

14789 for me, about 200 short of the mark but it's an excellent place to leave this story (it'll be easy to retake it tomorrow) instead of staying up for 20 more minutes to write a couple of hundred :)

All in all, happy with the result!
