I know there is a simple fix to my problem but my mind is fried and I can't figure it out. I'm writing in Microsoft Word 2000. Somehow I've turned on something that is making dots between each word and the paragraph symbol when I enter. How do I get this off?!! It's driving me nuts!

Also, does anyone have an suggestions of a better writing software I can buy for windows (after this nanowrimo is over, of course, lol)

You want to go to the Options and it should be somewhere under something like Display to hide the formatting marks.

You have "reveal codes" turned on.

Look for a paragraph symbol on either your tool bar or in one of your menus. It will probably be highlighted. Click that and you should be good.

Hope this helps.

Well in my opinion yWriter 5 is amazing.
Just thought I'd throw that out there.

A great software program you might want to look into is My Story Writer. After all the demos I've tried this one is hands down the best out there! They offer a trial demo so you can check it out without any obligation.

You might have a look in the NaNo Technology forum too. Lots of suggestions there. :-)
