Wheeeeee!!!!! *picks up lazym and spins her around*
Oh, wait. I hope you don't get vertigo... :)
My first year, I didn't go anywhere, not a single event. I didn't really realize they existed. But we organized some writing groups via the forums here and I was more in touch with the local community. My second year, 2005, I went to the kickoff, and Em was the ML (her first year I think?), so she's the only one I've known.
In many ways you're what Nano is for me, Em. and notice I'm back for the 6th year. So... thank you! We couldn't have a better one - the rest of the world can just be jealous ;)

Thank you, Em for organizing the Penguins year after year :) We are blessed to have so dedicated an ML in our region. Meeting you in person at my first TGIO party (or possibly even NaNoBruMo) has kept me coming back each year.
Keep up the great work!

Lazym
You are a gem
In your neon green shirt
Cheering us on til our fingers hurt
At your feet we would forever grovel
But you'd just say "Go work on your novel"
Because you are our gem

Aw…. Thank you everyone for the posts and PMs and emails. And even a poem! I’m not exaggering when I say that this is the best Wrimo region in the world. Here are some words that describe y’all:
fun (and funny)
engaging
respectful
energetic
helpful
inventive
inclusive
generous
(and that’s just off the top of my head, without benefit of a thesaurus).
I’m so proud of everyone this year – great word counts, wonderful donation rate, and a friendly supportive atmosphere online and at our meetups. I couldn’t do it without you! It’s a pleasure to be your ML.

Crap... Am I too late? May I also add my kudos to the ML-of -the-world thread?
Em is the greatest ML in the history of ML-ing.
(How great is she?)
She is so great that people who leave the Austin area keep coming back here more than they hang out in their new region forum!
She personally handed me the motivation last year to banish the Soul-Stealing Weasels of Despair from my NaNo-world which allowed me to actually win.
Thanks Em!

Oooops, late to the party! I was off writing (lol)...
Major thanks and kudos to our ML, doing a tiresome, mostly thankless task that pays far less than minimum wage!
May our ML rain erm REIGN forever! Sorry, I got poured on this morning, I blame water on the brain...

Now I know I'm in trouble. I was trying to figure out what word emily was spelling with the first letter of each line of her note. doh....I really need to stop playing word games and just WRITE.
After all, regardless of what any of us does or says, Emily takes it in stride and has kind things to say to us. We can embarrass her all to the ends of the earth and back and she'll just blush that beautiful shade of red which complements her neon green shirt perfectly. Then she'll say kind things to us. We can tease her, we can torment her, we can make her feel as if she'd prefer to not have any more hair on her head to pull out from our annoyances, but she'll merely smile and say kind things to us.
Encouragement. Praise. Positive reinforcement. Gentle reminders.
All kind things Emily says to us.
The first time I met Emily I was in such awe that I could barely speak to her. Then later, as I got to know her, I was amazed by her mind and could still barely speak. Now, I'm just stunned into silence that she puts herself through this craziness each year. I have learned, though, that speaking with Emily is by far one of the best things to ever come out of NaNo.
Oh yeah. Word count. Purpose. And Kind words.
All from the most awesome of MLs in all of NaNoLand.
