EEP! I'm out of town until early December, so I'm updating this list with different software than I've used in the past. Somehow I've lost 20 names from the list -- my results this morning only returned 130 writing authors, but NaNo HQ tells me we have 150.
If your name is one of those that disappeared, please post below and let me know.
Hopefully by tomorrow morning I'll have figured out the vagaries of switching between Excel 2010 (technical preview) / Open Office Calc / Google Docs.

===
I usually only start posting the Spokane standings late in the month, but as we're heading into the dreaded Week 2, I thought that a little friendly competition might keep the words flowing.

I'll try to re-sort the list on a daily basis, so you know how you're measuring up against your fellow Spokane authors. Don't see your name on the list? That's either because

  • you have not set Spokane as your home region yet (if that's the case, check your NaNoMail, you'll have a message explaining how to do that from either Dana or me waiting for you); or

  • you've only recently started posting your word count and my records haven't yet caught up. If that's the case -- pop in here and let me know to add you to the list the next time I run it.

Keep in mind that this list doesn't automatically re-sort. It should show the correct word count, but I have to manually sort the order, and that's only going to happen once a day, as I update my statistics.

This year, instead of adding a new post to the thread each day, I'll just edit this beginning post. You can post in the thread to brag about your standing, challenge the person below you to catch you, or warn the person two places ahead that you're coming after their spot.

  1. ********* ********* *********

  2. ======= ===== ========

Here's the list of the 20 18 17 15 14 13 local Spokane affiliates who haven't yet designated any home region. If your name appears on this list please, set your home region. Those folks who set their home region to Spokane will have their wordcount be added to rankings.

Ack! 13th place! I'm definitely going to have to do something about that today. I'm just going to challenge everyone ahead of me in general. I'm coming for you!

Since we're meeting at my favorite place today (ie Coffee Social) I should be able to get some serious k in. Although, their food and drink are also very distracting so....hmm.

Sustenance vs writing....

Monday's standings are now up, and we've picked up two new authors overnight.

How many places have you moved (up or down) since yesterday?

Up 20 some odd...

... and that's still insufficient. I'm fixing that today.

A quick note to let you know I've made a slight edit to the list to add two recently-homed affiliates to the ranking, but I did not update the word counts -- that's a 2-hour project all by itself, and far beyond my capability to handle during the work day.

None of the widgets are working anywhere right now. Hopefully that will be fixed soon, and you'll be able to see the list again.

Looks like the race to the finish line is getting close. Who'll be first to cross the 50K line? Azombieatemyshoelace? Arghetlam? Or is there a dark horse moving up from the back of the pack?

Laurie,

I did mention in my last email (didn't I?) that I'm prone to mixing metaphors. If I didn't, I should have. Consider it mentioned now.

The race really is only between you and the finish line.

About four (or maybe five) years ago I posted the standings of everyone in the Spokane region about mid-way through the month. I've tried to forgo the list in subsequent years, but always get numerous requests. It seems that some folks look forward to a little friendly competition to spur them on to write even more.

Right now, it takes about 2 hours each morning to update the statistics. If we get much bigger, I'll have to only check folks who have previously reported word count, and anyone new will have to let me know to add them to the list. I'd hate having to move to that method, since so far I've picked up at least one new addition each morning as folks log on and start updating their word count.

We've currently got 151 Spokane Affiliates with word count (18 of whom have not yet set their home region), but there are another 116 Spokane folks from previous years who haven't yet logged on, but might be writing, so I check those names, too. The only Spokane affiliates that I don't check daily are those who have their home region set to some other region, although I do check in with them once a week or so, just to make sure they haven't defected to Spokane.

Thanks for posting and updating, this definitely gives me the extra push I need to keep writing. I'm ridonkulously competitive with NaNo. In a fun way, though, I promise.

Wow, congrats to today's winners!

Maybe that'll encourage some others to catch up and give us a bit more of an edge over Bellingham. We're not that far ahead, and we are behind in our other two challenges... great job everyone on your word count, though. Really. Everyone is doing really well for this early in the month! We're not even halfway yet!

Friday morning results are now up. And already dreadfully outdated :-)

Keep writing, keep updating your word count. Let's break 2 million words by midnight Saturday. We're less than 290,000 words away. That's only another 2,117 words from each of the 137 writing Spokane authors.

I'm off to write my next 2,200 words for the cause...

I think I'll be happy just to keep up with the daily target. Last time I did this I was so concerned with winning quickly that I burned out before the month was over.

I'm going to be the little engine that could this year. Chugga chugga chugga ghugga.... :)

I took a much-needed day off from NaNo duties yesterday, and I'm amazed at the progress I see this morning! We've written over 2 million words so far, and already three Spokane authors have topped the 50K mark. Congratulations, Arghetlam & truly.brave!

I see I need to get busy today, since krobert1 has already bumped me from my place in the top-10 for wordcount, and there are many others moving up quickly.
