Thank you Lazym for being our dedicated and loyal keeper of the word count. I am in major guilt, I have written tons of stuff in between, yet all long hand. In our family of 4, 3 are sick (moi incl.) so I'm just writing in my notebook and cross my fingers that I can read it afterwards. I want to contribute to our lushguins with our word count challenge so no worries, the words are there. Just cross *your* fingers I can finally put it into the word count 'counter'.

You're welcome! And I'm sorry everyone is sick. Writing in bed! That's the spirit. Dream sequences are good to write when you're sick, because they don't have to make any sense.
If you can possibly get your words typed in, that's best. There is a way, in very special circumstances, that we can validate a count of words on paper. But it's really cumbersome....

I stopped uploading my actual document when it started getting big and I realized I could just put in the number myself. For purposes of your word count, is that not sufficient?
I guess I thought in the end I would have to upload the whole 50 K but there was no reason to do so betweentimes.
No? The website shows my current word count but I stopped uploading the actual doc to be counted. Do I need to?

One advantage to copy-pasting the entirety of your novel into the word count tool is that you get the NaNoWriMo word count for your novel... There's a discrepancy of about 30 words in my favor that the NaNo counter adds to my word count when I check the total.

You will need to upload the entire 50k document by November 30 to validate it, yes. But in the meantime, the honor system is a completely valid way to update your count.
(Like Phoenix, I'm using the upload method myself. It's just more convenient for me.)
