Winners and Those who gave it a good shot!

Hey Gang,

A little bit of searching showed me that 57 activiely participating people listed Toledo as their home region this year. Of that 57 a grand total of 26 people won the NaNoWriMo challenge this year! That is fantastic!!!!! Of those that did not complete the 50k, an additional 9 had more than 20k words. Amazing job Toledo! I'm very proud of you!

Toledo had a 46% winners this year! And that is fantastic!

We'll see what we can do for next year. I think we can do even better!

You guys rock!

I can't wait to see everyone Thursday night at Claddaghs!

Again, well done you guys!

WRITE YOU MAGNIFICENT WRIMOS!!!!!! AND let's talk Thank God It's Over Party! (Thursday Dec 4... Claddaghs agian?)

Hey my dear Toledo area NaNoWriMos!!!!! This is it! The last couple of days for NaNoWriMo 2008. I have total confidence in you guys. For all of us that already made the 50k well done! But we have not stopped caring. We are now standing at the finish line cheering you on. If you are within 20,000 words YOU CAN DO IT!!!!! I personally have and know of people in this Toledo area that have indeed done 10,000 word days. And really, it's not as hard as it seems. Simply write 1000 words an hour, take a break, get a cup of tea, catch a ten minute nap and then lather, rinse, repeat for 20 hours! See? OK, it might be very challenging, but you've gotten this far, might as well give it your very best shot!

As far as the Thank God It's Over Party...
Last year we met at Claddaghs for dinner and it was delightful. Anyone up for another Irish-Thank-God-It's-Over-Party? I'm all about it. Thursday, December 4th works for me. How about you?

Best of luck my friends!

See you at the Thank God It's Over Party!

Hey gang!

OK, here's the skinny. A lot of people have big Thanksgiving's to attend to on Thursday. So, Wednesday night will be the final meeting of the month and then next week, maybe Thursday or whatever we decide we'll get together and do dinner for the celebration!

Thoughts and ideas for locations for the dinner will be considered!

Great month gang! Thanks so much for being part of it!

OK, gang how about next Wednesday for a meeting? And let's talk about a wrap up / victory / end of NaNoWriMo dinner!

Hello WriMo's. Last night was a very abbreviated group and an abbreviated meeting. Only four of us were there. At least while I was there. But I also had to leave early due to requirements at the casa.

So, I presume that you were all at home writing your little hearts out! I hope that you bolstered your word counts and with a big push this weekend will end up at 50k ahead of the curve!

So, how's bout we do this then...

Since hardly anyone made last night's meeting and we think that one more weekly meeting might be nice and then some sort of dinner to celebrate. If you are interested sound off here!

Thanks

Word Count Drop

I just noticed on the 19th day our collective total word count dropped. Did somebody delete their work? Did they erase everything and start over? You know, it still counts if you wrote it. Heck, my "novel" is made out of four different things I've tried to get rolling. Trouble is, none of them have clicked with me so far. Although I do have more hope for my most recent one, which I started last night.
Week 3!!!!!!! Meetings and word counts and bears! Oh My!!!!!

Hey my NaNoWriMo-fos!!!!!!!

Here we are smack dab in the middle of week 3! How's everyone doing? Are you keeping your head above water?

I am, but this year hasn't seemed like the big sprint that it has in years passed. I've been trying to write in the mornigs for a little while and then at lunch for a little while and then maybe in the evening for a little while. And you know what? Little by little I've been keeping up. So, that feels pretty darn good. Next year may be the challenge for me. By the time NaNo comes around next year I'll have a 6 month old baby. That'll be a great challenge for me.

This week's meeting will once again be at the Barnes and Noble on Monroe Street on Thursday 11/20. Remember that we start gathering around 6:00 pm or so and then we are there until we leave or 11:00 pm comes and they boot us out. Give yourself a good night of writing tonight. Double your usual word count and then come join us. It's a wonderful evening of conversation with some really witty and interesting people.

See you tomorrow. And keep up the good work.

So, how's week 2 treating you? Let's do some math!

Hey Gang,

as we cruise into week two, I'm actually feeling pretty good. I'm over 20k this year by the 11th and plan to hammer out another couple of K before the end of the day.

I don't know about you, but I like to take the 1667/day and try to figure out how many words I'm ahead or behind. It's a lot of fun. Today I'm....

1667 x 11 = 18337

OHNO's first meeting of November!!!!!

Hey my NaNoWriMoFo's!

Tomorrow night begins our lovely quest for 50k words. Let's plan on making the first meeting at Barnes and Noble on Monroe street for Thursday Nov 6 at 6:00 or 6:30 or so. With our first week of writing under our belts and hopefully we'll all be around 10,000 words or so, we will all need an evening where we can sit back and relax and chat for a bit. Maybe even talk about our novels.

Remember, Remember the Fifth of November..... your word total should be around 8335! Give me your thoughts today....

Thanks to one of our Toledo NaNoBuddies for sending that button to me on Facebook! Thanks MaryAnne!

I hope that everyone is feeling good about their novels. Week one is always a strange week. You aren't so far into the novel that quitting is a real option. Around week three it starts to feel like you've invested so much time that you can't quit or you would hate yourself if you did. Well, let me tell ya, I've been doing this since 2002. The first week of writing is actually like starting a run or a long walk or bike ride. When you are just a little bit away from your door, you might have a tendency to think, "It's not too far away, I can just turn back and go watch reruns of "I Dream of Genie" or "Charles In Charge".

At other times you still might feel good enough and think, "This novel thing is doable. I'll just keep on trucking." Well I applaud you for that enthusiasm. Do yourself a favor, don't let the "I'm not too far away from home to quit"s get to you. Just keep on putting one word after another. If you get stuck, either power through or skip around. This year, I did something that I've never done before while writing, I actually abandoned a paragraph before I finished it and moved on to something fresh. It has done me a world of good. I have finally given myself permission to do stuff like that and I feel liberated and a bit naughty.

I guess what I am telling you is this, you will never get physically fit by walking 1000 feet, nither will you get a novel by quitting at 1000 words. Keep going. Limber up! Get your bevarage of choice. Music or none. Alone or in a crowd.... whatever factors make writing great for you and just keep spining your yarn. I know you can do it.

As for me? I've decided that lunch and before breakfast are my writing times so far. Luckily we just got a new kitten on Monday. My fiance says that when the baby gets here her cat will feel left out and we should get him a friend. I resisted this with every fiber in my being.... and we now have a cute little kitten.... who loves to purr and play and climb on my laptop while I'm attempting to write. Yet another challenge... and I'm in the process of moving... I am making this year a little more challenging than years past, but I know when I get back from my novel run, I'll be thrilled that I did it.

What are you doing to keep yourself from heading back home to grab the left over Halloween candy and do a fat lot of nothin'? Let us know. It'll be fun!

Oh and by the way, listen to the podcast and read the writer's encouragements, they always help.

Good luck and good writing

Dave
IT HAS BEGUN!!!!!!! How is everyone doing as we head into day 3?

Hello My NaNo Amigos!

Well, our first weekend is under our belts and I'm wonderfing who has had a good time working on their novels and who has been suffering through a bit.

For me, I stayed up until midnight on Halloween night, wrote for about 40 minutes and then hit the hay. I always like to have at least a little bit written as the month begins. I don't know why, but it feels more special for me.

I have been averaging over my 1667 a day. I got up early to get my words in today and that feels pretty good. I don't annoy my fiance that way. But I'm hoping to double or triple that during my lunch hour at work each day. That way, if I have to miss a weekend day, I won't have any guilt. I will say that moving while NaNoing is challenging, but it's also glavenizing! I am determined to get everything done and get it done well.

So, how's by you guys?

How is everyone else doing?

Sound off Toledo!

Maumee Meetings

Since I can't make it to the B&N on Monroe Street, I'm thinking I'm going to pick a night and go to the B&N at Fallen Timbers in Maumee. If anyone else is interested in meeting me there, please let me know what day/evening/time works best for you. That way I won't be there all by myself. LOL

If you prefer to go to the Monroe Street location, that's fine. You don't have to let me know here that Fallen Timbers doesn't work for you. I basically just want to get a head count to see how many prefer the Maumee location and what day/time is preferred.

Thanks!
Kick off meeting!

Hey gang. Anyone want to have a kick off meeting before the month begins? We could get together someplace and have dinner and discuss the state of our mental capacities before the noveling begins.

Just curious!

Meetings and the like!

Hey gang! As in years past we've met at the Barnes and Noble on Monroe Street in order to get our weekly shot in the arm and to talk about anything and everything and occasionally we even talk about writing. We are certainly going to do that again this year, but what does anyone else think would be good?

Do we actually want to try and arrange write in's?

Sound your voices and make some bold suggestions.

Otherwise, why don't we start with our normal meeting place, Barnes and Nobles one Thursday nights starting around 6:00pm and lasting until... the cows come home. Or 11:00 when they kick us out. Stupid Cows!

Let's hear it OhNo's!
We are here to elect an ML... unless someone wants to step forward.

Hey gang,

It's that time of year for someone to take the reigns and ML. Does anyone want to be the ML?

I would love to, but I am going to be moving during the next few weeks, and I have more than my hands full with that. I'll barely be able to write enough until we are in and painted and set up etc... Sooooooooooo, as much as I would love to volunteer after a break, I, alas, can not add my name into the hat.

Others... anyone... Rita? Come on... somebody be the man...or woman....or cyborg....

Hope to hear from you all.
