North Central OH Writers! (A REAL LIFE Group!!)

After the discussions we had during our Write-Ins, I have created us a yahoogroup to help us keep in touch and schedule real life meetings of the writing group we are going to call "The North Central Ohio Writers." (NCOW)

I promised you it would be coming, and it's here! The Black Friday Write-In is upon us! Of course, finding a time and place for said write-in was almost impossible because my family didn't tell me anything that was going on in our lives, therefore fending me to find my own plans. ^n^

But! The write-in is on!

What: Black Friday Write-In
When: 2 PM to whenever, Friday, November 28th
Where: John McIntire Library (the tentative plan is to meet in the lobby. If the library is closed, check here for an alternative meeting place.)
Who: I'll be there, and my boyfriend should be there as well. He's tall. I should have my purple hat on.
Why: Writing, dangit!

Don't forget about the Write-In at Aroma's!!! Here is the info for those of you who may need it:

WHAT: NaNo Write-In!!

WHEN: Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

WHERE: Aroma's Coffee Coliseum
634 East Main Street
Ashland, Ohio 44805

WHAT TIME: 4:30 pm to 7:00 pm
(NOTE: The Write-In will "officially" end at 7:00 pm, but there will be a few of us that will be staying longer -- probably until Aroma's closes, which I believe is 8:00 pm -- so if you wish to stay longer, please make plans to do so. We'd love to have you.)

WHAT DO I NEED: Just bring your lap top, Alphasmart, pen, pencil, paper, notebook, cell phone, Blackberry, or whatever it is you use to write. Oh, and don't forget to bring a few dollars to purchase one of the ultra yummy drinks and maybe a snack!!

Hola all Findlay-goers!

I am azyrian, a.k.a Brittany, the unofficial, self-proclaimed Municipal Liaison of the fantastic Findlay area (because we all know that Findlay is pretty much the bomb). Last year I took it upon my underaged self to arrange several skewed meetings/write-ins/coffee bonanzas at George House and The Stately Raven.

I'd be more than willing to step up to the job again, quite unofficially, unless there are some lurking 18 year-olds out there that want to wrestle the title from my greedy hands.

So yeah.
I might get around to planning a kick-off party come the first, and if...uh, anyone has any questions or whatever, bring it on. I'll answer them vaguely. :D

Unfortunately...I expect about four people to do NaNo in the Findlay area this year. So....BE AWESOME AND PROVE ME WRONG PLEASE.

Our next get together is the HALF WAY PARTY & Write-In!! (Yes, the half way point is almost here!) Below is the all info you need:

WHAT: The HALF WAY PARTY & Write-In

WHEN: Saturday, November 15, 2008

WHERE: Ashland Public Library

We will be meeting in one of the upstairs meeting rooms. Either look for the signs or ask the librarian to point you in the right direction.

WHAT TIME: 10:30 am to 1:00-1:30 pm

WHAT ELSE DO I NEED TO KNOW?
This is a HALF WAY PARTY so please BRING YOUR FAVORITE SNACK TO SHARE WITH EVERYONE (please, no sticky or "wet" snacks such as jello, puddings, glazed doughnuts, etc.). Perfect party snacks would be chips, pretzels, cookies, filled crackers, cupcakes, brownies, chex mix, mixed nuts, sliced cheese and crackers, cut veggies such as carrot sticks and celery with dip -- just be creative and bring something you think everyone would like!

If you want to reply and let us know what you're bringing so we can try to get as many different things as we can, that'd be GREAT!

Also, you can have any kind of drink you want as long as it has a lid on it. So, be sure your cup has a lid or you bring your drinks in a twist top bottle. (I guess the library is afraid of spills! LOL)

The HALF WAY PARTY & Write-In is always a good time! Please, if you can, make plans to join us!! You won't regret it!! We'd love to have you. AND, if you are behind on your word count, this is a GREAT way to get caught up! :)

Hi all!

This is my first NaNoWriMo. I'm pretty excited to start, as I've always wanted to write a novel. So far every attempt I've made has been a total bust, mostly because I get through four pages and say, "eh, I'll do it later", and never go back to it, opting instead for mind-numbing copy of corporate brochures.

Time to get my you-know-what into gear and get 'er done!

The Y-City Writers Forum is hosting an Open Mic at Tim Horton's in S. Zanesville on Maysville on November 14, 2008 from 6:00 PM-7:30 PM. Everyone is welcome. Bring your own short story, excerpt or poetry. Pull up a chair and listen or share you story.

ATHENS: Welcome Back, My Friends...

And so we begin again. I am the ML for Athens, OH and the surrounding area, returning for my third year. Historically we only get a very few participants -- single digits -- so we'll have a real chance to get to know each other quite well.

This year I'm hoping that we see more people who aren't Ohio University students. Those of you who do go to OU are of course the backbone of our tiny group, but most of you leave the area before NaNo is over. I'd like to add local resident authors into the mix as well. We've had a few nibbles before, so I'm hoping we can encourage them to join in and come to meet-ups and write-ins.

Our venue of choice last year was Donkey Coffee's second floor, which seemed to work very well for everyone involved. If we do get more people joining, we might have to find somewhere with a bit more space, but for now I foresee this should continue to be our meeting place.

This year I would like to encourage more participation from all of you. The past two years, no one has had anything to say about group activities, and I'd like that to change. NaNoWriMo is as much about the group experience as it is the writing madness. Planning for meet-ups and write-ins, suggesting activities and interacting here on the forums are all part of the fun! Don't be afraid to speak up.

At the time of this writing we have over a whole month to get ready. Take some time to introduce yourselves to each other. If you'd like to get together some evening in October, that would be fantastic. I'm looking forward to a great year with you all!

Let's Kick It with a KICK OFF PARTY North Central Ohio!!

We are just a little over two weeks away from the start of NaNo and you know what that means -- KICK OFF PARTY!!

Everyone had such a great time at Aroma's last year that it has been decided that we will have our Kick Off Party there this year! So, for those of you who need it, here is the info for the North Central Ohio's Kick Off Party:

WHAT: The North Central Ohio's Official NaNoWriMo Kick Off Party!

WHEN: Friday, October 31st, from 5 pm to 6:30 pm (or later if we want -- we have the place until at least 7:30!)

WHERE: Aroma's Coffee Coliseum

(Mapquest has great directions!!)

WHAT TO BRING: You, a few bucks for some AWESOME drinks and snacks, your novel outline or character novel if you want to make some last minute updates or need some tips or tweaks.

There are some new NaNo goodies this year, (as well as some left over older ones, too!!) so why not stop in to say "Hi," get a GREAT cup of coffee, an AWESOME brownie, get a tip or two on your character map or outline, meet some of the other North Central Ohio NaNoers, and pick up some NaNo goodies while you're there!? It's always a great time and you're sure to make some new friends.
