Calendar your Write-Ins [STICKY]

One of the downfalls of living in an "elsewhere" region is that the MLs are usually too far away to schedule write-ins and meetings.

This year, NaNo HQ created specific regions for anyplace that could claim a Municipal Liaison to organize things. I'm one of the Spokane MLs, but I've been volunteering as Moderator for the Elsewhere region for the past several years. I offered to stay on once all the other MLs were assigned to their new regions. You might want to re-check the Washington list of regions, you may discover a new one right next-door.

For all the rest of you lost in Elsehwere Land, there's nothing to stop you from planning your own events, and I'll create a separate calendar for those of you who are scheduling meetings with others; and pin each one to the top of the Elsewhere Forum page.

Here's how to do it: Create your own public Google Calendar where you post the times and places you will be meeting in your local area, send me the information and I'll post it to the forum. You'll maintain the calendar through November, and folks in your area who are interested in meeting up during NaNo will be able to check what's happening by a simple click on the closest calendar.

If you've got any questions about how to set up a Google Calendar, post them here and I'll walk you through the process. Just remember, it must be a public calendar, and if you create one, you're committing to keeping it updated, and showing up to any events that you post.

Once you've got your calendar created, post your link here or send me a NaNoMail with the link to your calendar, and I'll add it to the Elsewhere Forum.

Here we go again!

This will be my 3rd year participating in NaNoWriMo. I won two years ago, with about a week to spare! Last year, I didn't finish, but I think I had a good reason...I was in a pretty serious relationship with my girlfriend who I can now proudly call my wife!

Being a newly-wed, we'll see if I'll be able to get enough time to participate this year. We're still working on moving her into my house and trying to get life figured out. Of course, if I can get her to participate...... ;-)

We should do a kick-off get-together. Last year was pretty fun meeting at Elevated Ice Cream...that's got my vote again.

Anybody new from Port Townsend? Anybody returning? I can't wait to catch up with ya'll!

Our area has always been underrepresented here, but I'm going to be extremely disappointed (and lonely) if I'm the only one from Yakima doing NaNo. In fact, I'm planning on posting NaNo flyers around town, YVCC, maybe some cafés. Yakima can't be that podunk— we just have to get the word out, right?

Also, if by chance there is anyone out there, have any ideas yet of what you'll be writing? I don't. :)

We're not stopping writing just because it's a holiday weekend! In fact for many of us, we need this last push! We can do it.

Don't forget a write-in at the North Bend Library from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 29.

I'm also looking at doing something crazy on Friday or after the write in on Saturday at the library? Like taking over Sawdust coffee or North Bend Bar and Grill...

I'm in Enumclaw, and I have been meeting with a group at the Covington library every Thursday...but our group has quickly dwindled to just three people. And they are not even really serious about Nano. So, I'd love to be able to get with a group of real Wrimos just to toss about some ideas and encouragement, if there are still some write-ins planned.

Snohomish County Write-Ins

I previously went to school and now work in Seattle. It's my "home region" since I've done all my NaNo'ing there in the past. But now that I'm temporarily living in Snohomish county it's no longer feasible to go to so many Seattle write-ins. Especially on the weekends it's tough for those of us who are chained to buses.

Is anybody interested in doing some south Snohomish county write-ins with me?

Right now I'm thinking somewhere in the Mountlake Terrace/Edmonds/Lynnwood area.

I live between Gold Bar and Index on the Skycomish River. The Sky Valley is pretty much anything along highway 2 from Monroe to Stevens Pass.

I'd love to meet other people in this valley who are a part of this. Last year was my first attempt which I utterly procrastinated to death. A friend in Redmond and I decided to meet on a weekly basis and that worked for a few months until the Holidays and work deadlines stopped us.

This year I'm determined to do this and not let anything get in the way. I think I tried too hard last time and let myself get caught up in the nitty gritty of things instead of just writing for writings sake. This year I've tossed all of that out and have decided to just write and see where it takes me.

So far its hideous but its 5000 words and only day 3! It feels nice. Very nice. I am still trying too hard but it will come in time. if there are others in the valley who would like to get together to write or talk about our experiences, please let me know and I'll be happy to host something in my cabin or at a local restaurant.

Meetup at Kitsap Mall?

I've heard several people mentioning meetups in general, but I haven't seen any firm dates. If Barnes and Noble at the Kitsap Mall welcomes write-ins, who would like to attend? How often?

I'd like to meet weekly, maybe on Saturdays in the afternoon. Does that sound good to anyone?
