NaNoEdMo

Hi all!

Congrats to everyone who participated this year, whether you hit 50k, made your personal goal, or just wrote and had fun! Now that nanowrimo's over for the year, you might be wondering, what should I do with this novel?

Well, let me tell you what you can do with it! You can participate in NaNoEdMo, National Novel Editing Month, which takes place in March. Milwaukee/Waukesha is one of the few municipalities represented at EdMo -- which means we have our own super cool forum over there, too.

March seems like a long time away, but then, November 30th seemed like a long time away on November 1st. We'll fly through the holidays and before you know it, Edmo will be upon us.

For more details: http://www.nanoedmo.net
WINTER STORM WARNING and tonight's write-in

Mother nature gave us a pretty clean bill of health the entire month, but it looks like today she may very well rain -- er, snow -- on our parade.

I am keeping a very close eye on the weather to see how things develop. The last I heard, the forecast called for between eight inches and a foot of snow and more by the lake.

I want to be sure everyone stays safe, so although tonight's write-in is not yet called off, it may still be. I know some of you would be driving in from quite a ways, and although we have at least one EMT in the mix of the write-in-ers, I'd hate to have to call on his services at all. No offense -- again, just want everyone to stay safe!

Watch this space for more details; if you were thinking of coming and see this but don't want to stay online waiting for the answer on this one, if you private message me I can give you my phone number so that you can call for an update.

I have my fingers crossed that the clouds will just float on past us...

TGIO Parties

It's getting to that time again where, in less than ten days, Nanowrimo will be over for this year. So... it's time to think about TGIO (Thank God It's Over) Parties...

I'm planning to host one on the south side, as I've been doing the last couple years running. It would be great if there's someone who would want to host one on the north end or someone more central (or heck, anyone who wants to host a party anywhere in the region -- the more parties, the more fun, right?)

As for things on this end, I'm looking at Moondance as the gathering place -- of all the cafe/coffee shop places that there have been events on this side of town, Moondance was the most accommodating (and, they didn't have a freezing cold bright yellow restroom -- plus supporting small business is a good thing).

Here's a couple of possible dates I'd like to toss out there... if you're interested in coming to the TGIO party at Moondance (in Franklin, near the Franklin/Oak Creek border), please comment with your opinion on the dates/times. Thanks!

Possible Dates: Saturday, Dec 6 or Sunday, Dec 7 or Saturday, Dec 13 or Sunday, Dec 14

Possible times: Probably a 2 to 3 hour block of time in the afternoon or evening; Moondance is open until 8:30pm on Saturday and Sunday to 6pm -- last year, we also read excepts of our Nanos at the TGIO party, for those who wanted to, so time might be more determined on how many people are coming and want to read.... suggested times.... Noon to 3pm; 3pm to 6pm; 5pm to 8pm (last one, Saturday only possibility)
----------

I've been completely on my own so far and enjoying writing that way. But I'd be curious to meet folks in the area who are also writing. I'm hoping to work off and on this weekend (21-23) at Alterra north of Locust. Let's look around and see if we have any fellow writers, there, OK? I'll just walk around periodically chanting nanowrimo !
RESCHEDULED :: TUESDAY 18TH TO THURSDAY 20TH

Considering the RSVPs coming back negative, let's try a little something else...

The write-in scheduled for tonight is being postponed until Thursday night. Unfortunately, I can't promise coffee that day, but I can promise Jake will have cake (tonight would have been a cakeless tragedy, besides other people having conflicts). Hopefully by then, the streets will be non-slickery, the cake will be baked, and our word counts will all be a little higher.

So, the NEW DETAILS on the meet-up are...

Thursday, November 20th
6 pm to 9 pm
Daily spots on the East Side

Hello everyone.

I'd just like to let everyone know that I'm currently out of work, so I have a lot of free time. Therefore, I'll be working over-time on the novel and will be all over the place in the Northshore/East Side area. Give me a private message or email me at wifantasywriter@gmail.com, and we can set something up.

Today (November 5th) I'm sitting at the Alterra on Humboldt.

So get a hold of me.

Cheers,

Great to meet all of you who abandoned your novels to come to Schwartz's in Shorewood last night. Such interesting people! Such innovative story ideas! Thank you to Sharon at Schwartz's for hosting it and providing free coffee. The group had such a friendly dynamic - please check in here so we can connect your NaNo user id with your real name and stay in touch with each other. So -- I'm Susanne with the red hair. :)
OMG-WAMP! Parties

An ‘Oh my God, we’re at mid-point!’ party is a gathering scheduled for Saturday, November 15, the midpoint of the Nano season!

This will be the midway point, where we will all be striving to be at 25,000 words. I highly suggest multiple gatherings in different parts of the bi-city area, so that there are close places to go since we’ll all want more time to type like mad and less time spent traveling. If you’d like to announce a gathering in your neck of the woods on WAMP day, post the time and place here!

Here's the one that'll be going on around the south side area...

Time: Noon to 5pm
Place: Moondance Café
Address: 7001 S 27th Street in Franklin
----------
Come waste time reading my Middle-earth fanfiction. You know you want to. Well, maybe you don't, but you should anyhow. http://phoenix.zhie.us
Meet and Greet in Shorewood

Is anyone interested in attending a kick-off or a wrap-up party? As I mentioned before, I participated in NaNo for the first time last year. This year, I am a supervisor at an independent bookstore. I would like to involve my store, but I'm not sure what is involved. I would like to hear back from the Municipal Liaison. Thanks.
SoSiMiGro :: South Side Milwaukee Group :: Write-ins

Hey all! It's your friendly neighborhood librarian with a list of south side write-ins for the southerners.

All locations below should have power supply access; a final check will be performed tomorrow to be sure of where the outlets are located. All locations except for Borders Books have free WIFI. Wheee!

I'll try to remember to bring a sign or something to all of the public places (which would be all of them, wouldn't it?); if not, my laptop is white and many of these will also be attended by my brother, whose laptop is more like a one knee-top because of how tiny it is, and it's green. So look for the white and the green. Maybe I'll just bring the plot bunny and stick it on the table. We'll see. I get the strangest looks when I have that bunny. I'll find some sort of telling sign. --Zhie

November 1 :: Saturday :: 4 pm to 8 pm
Moondance Cafe :: Franklin
7001 S 27th Street
One part kickin' it off with much 'omg, it's November already!', three parts writin' til we experience carpal tunnel or run out of coffee. Word warz galore. Close to the end of the Route 27 bus.

November 3 :: Monday :: 6 pm to 9 pm
MATC South Campus Cyber Cafe :: Oak Creek
6665 S Howell Avenue Room A100
Italian atmosphere and cushy seats, a lovely view, and many vending machines to choose from. On the route 80 bus line. Park in visitor lot; sign in - room A106.

November 6 :: Thursday :: 6 pm to 9 pm
MATC South Campus Library :: Oak Creek
6665 S Howell Avenue Room A202
It's a library. It's got books. We're writing words, which are found in books. 'Nuff said. On the route 80 bus line. Park in visitor lot; sign in - room A106.

November 12 :: Wednesday :: 6 pm to 8 pm
Panera Bread :: Oak Creek
8907 S Howell Avenue
Their slogan pretty much says it... meet me at Panera Bread. 24/7 Jazz (it probably stays on even when they close...) so BYOM (bring your own music) if you're not into swing. Not bus line friendly :( But the bread is sooooo goood...

November 18 :: Tuesday :: 6 pm to 9 pm
MATC South Campus Cyber Cafe :: Oak Creek
6665 S Howell Avenue Room A100
Italian atmosphere and cushy seats, a lovely view, and many vending machines to choose from. Expect nothing new from the 3rd; they will be the same vending machines, and perhaps even have the same bags of chips and indestructible snack cakes as when you last saw them. On the route 80 bus line. Park in visitor lot; sign in - room A106.

November 22 :: Saturday :: 2 pm to 5 pm
Seattle Coffee @ Borders Books :: Greendale
5250 S 76th Street (Parking lot of Southridge Mall)
Delicious sugary things and coffee type things and reading type things when we need a distraction. A moment will be taken to remember JFK, if we can remember to do so between the frantic typing and the massive intake of caffeine. Close to any bus line that runs to Southridge or down 76th street. Also, they have pretzels. Mmmm...pretzels... I could use a pretzel about now...

November 30 :: Sunday :: 8 pm to Midnight
Moondance Cafe :: Franklin
7001 S 27th Street
A combination of 'woohoo! i'm done's, 'oh noes, i didn't finish's, and 'someone turn back the clock a couple minutes, i just need five hundred more words's. Close to the end of the Route 27 bus.

Most of the dates, I am sure the seats in my car are already spoken for, but if you want to carpool, don't have transportation, or can help with carpooling, please post about it on this thread. And also if you're planning to come ^_^ I'll be there anyhow, but the more the merrier!

Come waste time reading my Middle-earth fanfiction. You know you want to. Well, maybe you don't, but you should anyhow. http://phoenix.zhie.us
Not into fanfic? How about cheesecake? I like cheesecake. So do my muses. No links to it, just thought

GO VOTE!

For those of you who are of age to and can legally do so, today it's very important for you to go and vote! Tomorrow will be much too late, and yesterday is already passed, so today is it. Remember: there are more items on the ballot than just the presidential race. Your vote counts! (And if the lines are long, just bring your laptop or alphasmart and get a few words in while you're waiting...)
