Looking for Laramie NaNoWriMos

Hey there! This is my first year doing NaNoWriMo and I was looking to find some sort of support group.... Or at least a group that would like to spend a couple hours on Saturdays or Sundays at Coal Creek pushing out some script.

Let me know if anyone is from around town here!

Home Stretch

It's the last five days! I've seen some green and purple already, and congratulations to those that have made it! As a region, we have roughly 1.15 million words between us. Not bad for the least populated state in the country, not bad at all.

I know I'm a long way away from the end (which is why I'm up at 1 in the morning, incidentally, sitting at only 25K), but it's still doable! Anybody else feeling that last minute burst of writing energy coming on? Here's hoping. Good luck to everyone!
Novel swaps, anyone?

Alrighty. I do realize it is still week one.
But if you ask about novel swaps on December first, hardly anyone gets on and it's a total failure.
So, I want to get here quick. Before y'all are off.
Is anyone interested in doing a Wyoming novel-swap-fest?
If you've never done it before, it's super fun to see what everyone else has cranked out, whether it is 50k or 5k.
If you have, then you know what I'm talking about.

So how about it?
I'm game if you are.
Hang in there!! You're doing great!!

Hello everyone,

I just wanted to drop in a word of encouragement. Now that the first excitement of starting on Day 1 is over, the flow hopefully is continuing for you. Characters begin to either follow your story line or decide to be independent and take on a life of their own, changing your original idea. And so the plot thickens and exciting scenes and dynamic dialog begin to fill your pages.

If the dreaded Writer's Block rears it's ugly head, I skip ahead to a different scene or another character, neatly side stepping the nasty little critter, WB. Then later, when the story line is progressing nicely and maybe even after my word count is done, I will go back and fill in the part of the story I had skipped. Usually it flows and fills in easier than what I was originally trying to write. Just a possible suggestion.

Isn't it exciting to be able to create such wonderful stories that others can't wait to read. Or maybe you prefer to keep it secret from the public and friends and relatives and pull it out occasionally to read only for your own enjoyment. There is such a sense of accomplishment and pride knowing that you and you alone (or maybe with a little help from your muse) have created a masterpiece. And each piece IS a masterpiece. They are a total creation of your imagination, full of your thoughts and ideas, and every word and page are filled with every loving thought you put into creating it.

Congratulations!! You are doing great!!

Write On!
Donna - aka Metaphysicdoc

Day Four

How's everybody doing so far? I've seen a few word counts looking quite impressive from our region. But now that that initial jolt of "OMG it's NANOTIME!" has started to wear off, a lot of us are probably going to settle into something a little more comfortable. And I know, in my case at the very least, this is when frustration can start to sneak up on you.

So in the interest of good forum discussion since we're all physically spread out, I have a couple of questions.

What are some of the frustrations and challenges that you face during NaNoWriMo as far as word count and writing goes, and how do you get over those frustrations? Are there some tricks that you use to get past slow spots?

One of my biggest frustrations is when I get into a slower part of my novel where the scene is a critical setup for other scenes, but it's mostly dialogue and not a lot of action. If I find I really, really can't get into it, I skip the scene and go on to the next something else that is going to be more fun to write, and fix the scene I just skipped in the editing process.

And it's Tuesday, November 4th. If you are of age.... Go vote!
And Away we GO!!

We're off! Just like a bunch of race horses, or a herd of turtles. Use your own imagination to fill in the blank. Were there any real go-getters who actually started writing at 12:01 this morning?

I can just visualize all of our fingers frantically typing away or writing on napkins or whatever is handy while our characters who were straining to get out are finally released.

I am here this morning at the Wind City Books for the kick-off in the Casper area. Ideas are filling the loft of the bookstore, while the smell of freshly made pumpkins scones and coffee gently waft up from below, making our tummies growl and imaginations soar.

The store is open from 9-5 on Saturdays, so drop by whenever you have a little time to meet and greet other writers and/or kick back and bring your story to life.

Feel free to add me to your buddy list if you like. I am here if anyone needs a sounding board, encouragement, just to talk or whatever comes up.

Good luck everyone and WRITE ON!!
And we're off!

And here we go!
Good luck to everyone!
Remember that sleep is necessary at times!

I hope to see some of you at write-ins this month.

For those of you who either can't make it, or don't want to go to write-ins, I'm going to try to make sure that we have an active forum in the next four weeks. Now that I'm not working 30 hours a week on top of school, it might just be possible!

Write on!
Sheridan Write-In??

Hey, I didn't see this topic! Does anyone in Sheridan or around that area want to get together and do any write ins this year? It would be kind of cool. I used to go to them in Billings when I lived there, and it was fun to meet the other people who were noveling. When and where would be good?
Room reserved for Write-Ins in Casper

Hi everyone,

I have reserved the Reading/Writing Room in the Wind City Book Store, 152 S Center St in Casper for every Saturday in November, except the 29th - Thanksgiving weekend, from 9-5. I will bring in a couple of surge bars so there are plenty of plug ins for everyone.

There are tables and chairs or soft cushy sofas and chairs for those who want to settle in and relax while they write.

The first Saturday is Nov 1 and we could have a quiet - "shhh it's a book store" Let's Get Started Party then settle down to begin typing our little fingers to the bone as they try and keep up with the story that is flowing from our thoughts.

Let me know if anyone is interested and what you would like to do. Please feel free to email me with any suggestions and ideas. They are all appreciated.

If anyone needs a sounding board or just someone to talk to or get a pep talk from, I am willing to try.

Ready! Set! Write!

Have a great day!
Welcome to Wyoming!

Hello, everyone, and welcome to NaNoWriMo 2008! We're glad to have you on board this year!

As you might have noticed, or maybe you haven't, Wyoming has an ML this year. Now, I know you're all thinking "what's the point of having an ML in a place as geographically remote as Wyoming?" Well. The point of an ML is to give people encouragement and organize events for everyone, and also to get the word out about NaNoWriMo to the rest of the community at large.

What I envision for Wyoming is getting more people wanting to write, and spreading the word about this craziness that we all put ourselves through. I know since our region is our whole state, this will be a little more difficult than in other areas. I'd love a co-ML or two if anyone is interested, preferably NOT from the southwest Wyoming area. Events will be hard to coordinate, if we even want to have them, because we all know that weather in November around here can be a little tricksy and treacherous. But I want to do my best to at the very least have an active forum where all us Wyoming Nanos have a place to support each other, blow off steam from the noveling process, and all that other good stuff. There aren't a lot of us compared to other regions, but we can be just as active if we want to.

A little bit about me, so you don't think that I'm just coming out of nowhere. My name is Jennifer, I'm a Wyomingite at heart despite where my life has taken me at times, and I have found myself back in Rock Springs at WWCC. I've done Nano for four years now, winning for the last three, and this is my second year as an ML. I was an ML for Augusta, Georgia last year, where my husband was stationed with the military.

I can't wait to hear from all of you, and I look forward to this year's event!
Casper Write-in

I'm going to be in Casper on November 7th. My wife has meetings all day, and I don't have a lot going on. Anybody interested in getting together for a write-in on that day?
Southwest Wyoming write-ins

I've gotten so busy with my new job that I've got to apologize for not doing this sooner. So... sorry everyone. :)

When do we want to have write-ins? I'm going to suggest that we do them in Rock Springs so that people from both Evanston and Rawlins and everywhere in between only has an hour and a half to two hours or so to go at the maximum. I don't want this to be a chore for anyone.

Place is also something we need to consider. I happen to love the atmosphere at the Starbucks here in RS. I may also be able to get us a meeting room at the White Mountain library, if that's where we want to do things.

Input would be greatly appreciated!
