Death Comes Knocking

“Let’s say I believe this is a different planet.” She was thinking hard. “Why do you have a British accent?”

“I forgot my own, and this was my favorite.”

I could feel the wheels turning in her head. After a moment she spoke again. “And why—how—am I here?”

“Well, at the moment, this planet has a problem they need to take care of. In order to take care of this problem, they have this thing called a hero conjurer. In their times of need, or when they need someone to help them take care of a problem, they use it. Or at least they used to. Recently there have been some ethics questions raised. At first, the scientist who designed the thing said it created a ‘hero’ right on the spot. Someone who was equipped to handle the unique problem they were going to face. The problem, however, is that’s not true. It steals people.”
