A WoT Fanfic, and Tribute to Robert Jordan
an excerpt
“I had heard that you had taken on a second Warder. I didn’t realize that you’d stoop so low as to take on one of them,” as she said the final word, Cyn’nah put all of the scorn she could muster into that simple syllable.
“You have a problem with Asha’man?” Naeth asked as he lunged. Kelinol stuck out an arm, catching the shorter, darker man before he could go very far. “Naeth,” Rikoa said, her tone hard. She looked back over her shoulder at her two Warders. “Be calm about this.”
“Yes, do you have something against Asha’man?” Jaimo interrupted. He turned towards the cluster of Red Sisters as he spoke, looking straight at Cyn’nah. “The men themselves? No,” Cyn’nah said, choosing her words carefully. “But the Red Ajah has the best interests of not only the men themselves, but the best interests of the world as a whole in mind when we say that we are not fond of Asha’man. Who can forget the Breaking? Do we really want a repeat of that event?”
“We all know you’re just dancing around the truth because you don’t wish to speak it, but your oath won’t let you say anything but,” Naeth spat, still held back by Kelinol. “Honestly, Rikoa, I don’t see why you have such an interest in gaining Warders. How many have you had since becoming Aes Sedai?” Cyn’nah asked.
“That number is not public knowledge and it will remain that way, out of the hands and minds of the rest of the world,” Rikoa informed her icily, each word dripping with coldness. Although that’s what Cyn’nah said, deep inside, her innermost feelings, the ones that she didn’t’ share with anyone were saying, ‘How could you get over the loss of losing one so near and dear to your heart enough to replace them, in any way shape or form?’
“Lovely,” Cyn’nah said distastefully.
“If you have a problem with my Warder, perhaps you should take it up with me, instead of insinuating, veiled comments.” Rikoa snapped back at her.
