Excerpt:

The sound of the manor exploding will be with me until my final day. Everything seemed almost peaceful as my mind simply didn’t register the size, the rage of the fire that was my home being destroyed. There was a low roar that was the sound of the fire that drowned out the noise of the Zombies as they gave their moaning cry. Again, there came a second of silence so complete I could hear the waves lap against the hull. Then there was a noise that I simply cannot describe and the manor disappeared in a moment of blackness and shockwaves and fire so total it seemed transparent. The next moment came a sound that my brain only registered as if a person had said pow right next to my ear. Another moment and the surface of the water ruffled as if someone blew across the tops of the waves, and the boat lurched. I almost lost my footing and fall overboard, but I managed to land on my knees, hugging the wheel. When I stood up again, there was only a sheet of fire that stretched from the wall to the water’s edge and to the forest on the other side. Everything was gone. With nothing left to do, I sat in the captain’s chair and drove the boat away.
