Synopsis: Breaking Forwards
I have written original fiction for the previous 3 years, but now I'm going to try and write a HP Snarry (Snape+Harry) fanfic for the nanowrimo this year. Primarily set in Harry's 5th year, this story will start out at the end of the year prior, in order to detail the events that happen that summer.
For once, Harry is approaching his summer with a plan in place for surviving it. He will be creating several ration packages for himself, and with the help of Dobby the house elf, he secretly plants them throughout his room at #4 Privet Drive; charmed to be seen only by him or Dobby. Even with these and other precautions in place, the abuse he suffers at the hands of his family is still detrimental to his already tormented character ("already tormented" - largely in thanks to the conclusion of the 3rd task).
Upon his return, his new behaviors and temperaments are noticed not only by his friends and Dumbledore, but also by Professor Snape, who is determined to get to the bottom of "Potter's new scheme." However, what he finds out will shock even him, leading to the formation of a new working relationship between the two of them (and possibly more).

Excerpt: Breaking Forwards
“Which is it then, Potter? Pine cones or pine needles?” Snape asked, his dark eyes completely fathomless.
“Neither,” he responded dully, still slumped forwards with his head in his hands.
The class gasped at what they were certain was an idiotic response to what should have been a simple question.
“Explain.” The instruction was terse, leaving no room for discussion.
“The use of pine cones or pine needles is redundant, provided that the snake shells have been crushed completely and adequately into an extremely fine powder, and then mixed with the graphorn powder, rather than added separately,” he said tiredly.
“According to whom?” The voice Snape used was dangerously soft, but it no longer frightened Harry the same way it did the rest of the class.
“The latest researchers.”
“Humor me. Specifically whose research?”
“Yours sir,” he said, finally squinting painfully up at the man, trying not to wince at the light now filtering in around the blinding edges of his migraine.
The room was shocked absolutely silent. Was Potter actually right about this? Or was he just making it all up? But if he was making the information up, why would he cite Professor Snape as his source???
“Well done, Potter.” The man said grudgingly after another moment, a modicum of respect in his tone. “20 points to Gryffindor,” Snape said with almost an invisible nod, before turning around in a flash and glaring down at the rest of the class.
“You heard what he said. What are you all staring for!?! Get on with your work!”
Harry smiled weakly at the man’s back, before closing his eyes back against the pain, allowing the darkness to claim him once more.
