“—hello?” It’s not the pounding of his heart in his ears that stop him, it’s the voice. He isn’t sure if it’s his mind playing tricks on him again or if he’s actually hearing a woman’s voice begging for him to open a door. There shouldn’t be anyone in the halls. From what he can remember everyone is exactly in the same situation he is: in their rooms pretending to be asleep. Then why is he hearing someone in incredible pain, pounding on his door as if they’re about to die?

It’s because Jesse isn’t as normal as he hoped to be. He wants to walk around and act like any normal person would—if normal even exists. But every time he tries, something pulls him down and makes his life even worse. The people around him who hold him hostage in this insane asylum want to know why. Yet Jesse won’t speak up about it, for it seems he believes something worse would happen if he did.

The more they dig into his mind, the more they discover, but will it be too late to help Jesse?
