Excerpt: The Traveling Gown
The gown did not know when she was created, but the first thing she saw was Mai's thin fingers stitching iridescent sequins onto her neckline. It pinched a little each time the slightly bent needle entered her fabric. She became conscious of other gowns in the sweatshop factory, the ground of which was littered with colorful beads, sequins, lengths of thread and fabric pieces. Some of the gowns were whispering, gossiping.
