Synopsis: Jumping the Gun
Jacob Merle was the only son of an affluent family, who spent his days doing lots of nothing and driving around in fancy cars being bored with life. This all changed the day he recieved a mysterious package in the mail. Bearing no return address and containing nothing but an antique pistol, this strange delivery thrusts Jacob to the forefront of a bizarre quest to restore an ancient power...
Hoping to find out more about the pistol, he goes to meet with the history professor at his old college, but his plans are derailed when they are attacked by a group of mysterious agents who seem to be after the gun. Along with Dorothy, a college student who happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, he flees from their attackers and the two take off down the highway, led only by a strange feeling that seems to emanate from the pistol, urging the boy onward.
The force leads them to a hidden town where they meet with the man who sent the gun to Jacob. Perry Hostler runs a magic shop with his overly cheerful granddaughter Mia, and he has a mission for the bewildered travelers: to collect a scattered set of mystical artifacts and take down a corrupt businessman who seeks the power to rule the world - and just might get it, if Jacob and his newfound allies can't get there first...
Excerpt: Jumping the Gun
It started in a very cliché manner, when a package arrived on his doorstep.
This was a great deal odder than it sounds, because he was staying with his parents in their villa out in the countryside, with no one around them for at least five miles in any direction. Furthermore, the package was sitting, literally, right in the middle of the top step, and the entire estate was surrounded by a ten foot tall brick wall. In addition, there were security guards that patrolled the wall for intruders during the night. They also had a mailbox right at the end of the drive, so by all accounts it was very odd that there would be a package anywhere but inside of it.
But there it was.
