Synopsis: Victoria’s Secret Is She’s Sleeping With Todd

When Todd Erlanger, Pippa’s grumpy editor tells her to ‘stop this overwrought writing and just tell the bloody story’ , she takes it as sound and workable advice. When, however, he adds that he wants the manuscript by the end of the year or else she can forget about her book deal, she decides to give it all she has.
As though she were cutting cocaine with flour, she mixes her novel with the nightly chats with her lover, the dreary mails her husband sends and the daily three-page vitriolic rants her writing coach insists on labeling morning pages. Soon Pippa finds herself building a wonderfully fast-paced, exhilarating story, which follows the deliciously evil and organic plot of her life. Happy about the regained joy in writing, she marvels at the funky if crapular prose flowing out of her, and finds herself doing wild things just so she can incorporate them in her novel.
Six weeks and three gallons of 11 a.m. Jameson’s later, she has a finished manuscript.
Drunk with happiness at having conquered her fear that she might never be able to ever finish a novel, she lets it slip to her cleaning lady that she wishes someone gutsier than herself would send it off to her editor. ‘Because it can never be sent, you see. It would mean the end of civilisation. Really.’
The next day, the cleaning lady does her the favour and what lands on Todd Erlanger’s desk is the most thrilling read he has ever experienced. But not in a good way.
