Synopsis: Sharkchild

On a tropical island paradise, one village has a unique society. Weresharks are called tanui and take the role of warriors, fishermen, and hunters, regardless of gender. Humans are tahni and do the cooking, weaving, and raising of children, regardless of gender.

When Kota chooses to become a tahni, be befirends Panika, a young woman eager to have her first child. Because being a wereshark leads to birth defects--a condition the elders call 'Shadowling'--only tahni women are allowed to have children, so when Panika is chosen by the spirit of a tanui killed in battle, her dreams of being a mother appear shattered.

Meanwhile, Kota attracts the attention of Meru, Panika's tanui brother, because in their society, tanui always choose tahni as their mates, regardless of gender.
