Excerpt: Strips of Sunsets And White
"Blue eyes. Isn't that a rather odd color for eyes? Does that make you beautiful?"
I cleared my throat and looked at the floor, and then looked back up at her, and smiled. "Blue eyes are fairly uncommon compared to brown eyes but not as rare as green eyes. And I'm not quite sure if I want to be beautiful. I'd rather be...you know. Handsome."
She grinned widely. "Sorry, handsome then. Does that make you handsome?" she asked again, her question seeming annoyingly persistent.
I winked. "I don't know, you tell me. Do you find me attractive?"
"Do you find me attractive?"
"Not fair, I asked first."
-
"You do realize," she said, sounding annoyed, "that every time we bring up a topic, the other one manages to divert it so fully that we end up at square minus one, instant of square one?"
I shrugged. "Baby," I said, playfully, "I was always horrible at math. That's why I'm doing pre-med. Stop talking about squares and numbers, okay?"
"What about sperm counts?"
"Only if you'll take them."
"She's watching some horrible soap opera about the woman who's trapped in an abusive relationship but breaks free and finds love with a sexy artist guy and exacts her revenge by making abusive husband die in a road accident or something. You know the type."
"Wait. Why are artists sexy? What about struggling college medicine students who work for two hours a day, Monday to Friday?"
"There's always Grey's Anatomy for the sexy doctor dudes."
"What about me, huh?"
"Sorry, hon, but you're no McDreamy."
"What am i then, huh? McCheesy?"
"No," she said, giving me a playful push, "McSpermy."
"Okay, McEggy."
