Three Blind Mice
an excerpt
Three Blind Mice
What is a miracle? Is it an act of God or a spiritual being in your eyes? Is it perhaps just coincidence? Take the miracle of 1992; three blind college students from different parts of the United States could suddenly see again. Don’t remember it? Was it so sensationalized and over reported that you desensitized yourself? Maybe it was stuffed in between stories of what celebrity did what today, in either case, you can read on and then decide for yourself weather it was a miracle or not.
Chapter 1
“I’m bored”.
“Well, what would you like me to do about it Serena”?
“Give me an idea, anything, it’s been decades since I’ve had anything to do”.
“That’s because the last time you did anything you caused a world war and Father forbade you to do anything else”!
“Yes, I know Helena! I SAID I was sorry! I want to do something nice and useful, something to restore their faith in us”.
“Why? We never get the credit for it anyway. Humans follow each other blindly like lemmings and give credit to the one they call God or Jesus. They don’t remember us, well most of them anyway”.
“I don’t care, I want to play”.
“Do as you please Serena; I’m just warning you about meddling in the affairs of humans. Father will not allow you to do anything ever again if this blows up in your face”.
Helena walked off because she wanted no part in her sisters’ scheme. Serena looked down upon the world for something to “help” with. In actuality, she liked her little experiments and sometimes enjoyed when they had disastrous results. This time she wanted to do something subtle yet obvious to true believers. She searched the world over and decided to concentrate it to one country, the United States. They were skeptics but they were suckers for miracles and she could certainly do better than the Virgin Mary on a potato chip.
“These three should do nicely”. She had chosen three college students; a girl from California, Wendy Moran. She was beautiful and blessed with an angelic voice but painfully shy. The second was a boy from Ohio, Wesley Marshall. He had been disfigured and blinded in a meth lab explosion when he was six so he had no idea what he looked like. He was a bitter mistrusting soul that had been shifted from foster home to foster home since it was his parents who had caused the explosion and had blown their sorry asses up in the process. The third, also a boy, was from New York. Wendell Mayfield was a well respected kid brought up in a religious household with a slightly overbearing single Mother. He was average looking, loved to learn and his one wish was to travel the world.
All three were blind and in college; average people she was about to give an extraordinary gift…sight. “Let’s see what they do with it”, Serena mewed.
